Osteoporosis - role of physical therapy

There was a recently published clinical practice guideline for the treatment of osteoporosis by physical therapists. This guideline primarily focuses on osteoporosis in females because it is more prevalent. It looks at specific therapeutic exercise interventions for each body part usually impacted by osteoporosis. Click here to read the guidelines. If you have any questions about what specifically PT can do for you or one of your family members with osteoporosis, send an email to info@dborthopt.com.
What do consumers think of Physical Therapy?

The American Physical Therapy Association conducted a 2021 survey about the consumers of physical therapy to see what they think about the profession. Several key areas were identified including: a positive consumer experience, recognition of PT's as first choice providers after physicians, expanded perception of what PT's can do, knowledgeable providers and those that receive PT use less pain medication.

Consumers of db OrthoPT have recognized the difference by coming to our practice. The team has strived for 5 star reviews and AmaZing customer experience. In addition, we try to educate our patients about advising their family and friends what to look for when choosing a physical therapist in their community. With the rise of private equity institutions buying existing PT owned practices or opening new ones, it is critical that people choose properly. Here is a few questions to ask:
  1. Who owns the practice? Is it a physical therapist owned practice or a general business corporation? Ask to meet the owner if you are not sure.
  2. Are the physical therapists on a partnership track like at db OrthoPT?
  3. Do they have state of the art facilities and equipment or is it bare bones?
  4. Does the physical therapist perform a thorough evaluation, review the findings and discuss a plan of care? Do they use manual therapy techniques or just exercise?
