PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear HPKCC Members,

I am honored that the Board has chosen to place its confidence and trust in me as the next President of the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference. During my time on the HPKCC Board, I’ve been motivated by all of the hard work of my fellow Board members and I’ve committed myself to continuing HPKCC’s mission and especially to working with all of you my fellow Board members. I am confident that we will continue in HPKCC’s long tradition of service to the community and that we will take the work of HPKCC to new levels.

The Board is working diligently on a five-year strategic plan that will help HPKCC establish a direction for our organization. The strategic plan will help sharpen our focus in order to get to that direction, especially in light of our new reality during the pandemic. It will help HPKCC develop the right goals and targets, and help all of us focus our efforts into meeting them. Like everyone else, we all were hit hard by the pandemic. Our annual Used Book Sale and Garden Fair were cancelled, which are longtime cultural and communal staples of our community. We will spend the next several years developing a financial plan and seeking other sources of income. And when the time is right and we can safely gather again, hopefully in 2021, we will bring back the Used Book Sale and Garden Fair.

Our Community Dialogue series that began at the beginning of the pandemic has been a huge success. We’ve seen the interest our community members have in gaining insight to timely issues and access to public officials so that our concerns might be addressed. To date, we’ve hosted seven Community Dialogues on topics including COVID-19, an Emergency Forum following the murder of George Floyd, Education and Childcare, Housing, Police Accountability, Food Security, and Voting Rights. We plan to continue this series and support all of our Committees and new initiatives, including the Food Security Working Group.

Once again, thank you for your support. I look forward to serving the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference and all of our community.
