"Salvation Army to offer shower, laundry facilities in Greenfield"~ The Recorder (1/5/23)
"After several years offline during the pandemic, the showers at The Salvation Army on Chapman Street are available again, along with new laundry facilities on the way — news that comes as a relief to people tuned into local issues of homelessness....

… The shower facility, which was renovated during the three-year closure, reopened for use at 72 Chapman St. on Wednesday, according to Salvation Army Lt. Paul Leslie. The two showers will be open Monday to Friday from 9 to 11 a.m., between the breakfast and lunch services, he said.
Hours for the laundry services, which will be available beginning Monday, will also be from 9 to 11 a.m.

“We realized that for the number of years that the shower facilities had been available, in most cases, folks were putting the same clothes back on,” Leslie explained, noting that prior to closing in 2020, the showers had been available for about five years at the site on Chapman Street. “We thought, from the standpoint of the folks we’re serving, for them to be able to put on clean clothes after they’ve taken a shower, it’ll be more beneficial for folks.”

Leslie said The Salvation Army was able to buy the two washers and dryers thanks to a $3,000 grant it received last June from the Opioid Task Force of Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region. " (Photo: Courtesy of the Recorder)

"Sullivan sworn in for fourth term as district attorney" ~ The Recorder (1/4/23)
" In the old courtroom at the Hampshire County Superior Court, Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan took the oath of office Wednesday for the fourth time after being reelected to the position.

In his acceptance speech, Sullivan thanked the assistant district attorneys and victim advocates for their commitment to justice, as well as local and state police for their service. The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office serves Franklin and Hampshire counties, plus Athol.

.....“Engaged citizens must play a central role in addressing the social ills and problems of crime by partnering with law enforcement,” he said. “Without true community engagement, law enforcement and a prosecutor’s office cannot begin to address the complex problems of crime in our community.” (Photo: Courtesy of the Recorder)
"Sheriff Donelan sworn in for third term" ~The Recorder (1/6/23)
"Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan, right, was sworn into his third six-year term in office by Superior Court Justice Jeremy Bucci during a private ceremony at the Franklin County Jail and House of Correction in Greenfield on Wednesday. He ran unopposed in the November election." (Contributed photo)

Orange Food Pantry Seeking Non-Food Donations
The Franklin County Community Meals Program seeking non-food donations for its Orange Food Pantry

When people think of donating to our agency and food pantry, they often think of food- however, that's easier for us to obtain with local partnerships with farms and retailers. What we struggle to keep stocked are hygienic & household products, such as:

  • Adult pull-ups size Medium, Large, & XL
  • Menstrual products
  • Bath products- bath wash or bar soap, shampoo, conditioner
  • Deodorant
  • Floss
  • Mouthwash
  • Toothpaste (we have plenty of toothbrushes currently!)
  • Paper Towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Dish Soap
  • Household cleaners- Windex, multi-surface, floor cleaner, etc.

Dozen-sized egg cartons for repackaging the hundreds of eggs we receive weekly from retailers are also needed.

Please share this list amongst your networks! Donations can be dropped off at 324 Wells Street (the Franklin County Community Distribution Center) at our office, or if donating a large amount, drop-off can be coordinated via donate@fccmp.org. (Image credit: Pixabay)
