A Few Words from Lynn

Fall is quiet after all the equipment is stowed for the winter. But behind the scenes Kingswood volunteers work on improvements to the camp and plan for the 2025 season. The current projects are numerous. Volunteers are on the property often working on various projects. Their reward comes in summer when camp is full of people enjoying the ifacilities, having fun and building community. They also build community as they work side by side.

I was quickly pulled into the Kingswood volunteer family in 2015 after attending an adult camp. I have had fun, built friendships and grown from the time I've spent at Kingswood as a volunteer or as an employee. Consider becoming part of the group that keeps Kingswood true to its mission.

"Kingswood Campsite is a quiet, natural setting in which the development of positive, cooperative experiences are encouraged. This setting provides opportunities for community: strengthening of families, giving back through volunteering, nurturing of friendships, renewing of spirit, and growing in respect for God’s Creations."

Young Families' Volunteer Weekend

June 14 &15

This spring we will pilot an opportunity for families with young children to volunteer with other families. Families will arrive on Saturday around noon with their own lunch. During the afternoon small, kid-friendly tasks to prepare the camp for opening will be done in small groups. There will be time for families to explore and enjoy camp in the early evening after dinner and before the campfire. Breakfast will be served early, followed by worship and finishing up any tasks. Of course we will celebrate Fathers' Day. Dinner, campfire snacks, and breakfast will be provided. Families can choose to stay in an equipped site or lodge in the farmhouse. Look for registration details in early spring.

Staffing for 2025

It may seem a bit early to talk about summer, but now is the time to plan. Valerie Minton has agreed to be the lead program director. There will be a few weeks Val can't be there. If you're interested in trying the position out for a week, let Lynn know at KWadministrator@nyac.com.

The lifeguard position is open. Imagine your being at Kingswood for the summer and earning a little pocket change. It's a great position for a parent with kids who love the place. An older teen might find it a great way to live on their own for the first time with some supports. Or a college student might find it a relaxing change of pace. We can provide the training to the person who is physically fit, a strong swimmer and available for training in mid-June.

Stone Ministry Visionary:

Peter Seirup

Peter

I grew up in northern Westchester County, New York with four siblings in a family that enjoyed tent camping. We camped up and down the East Coast in our station wagon with the fondness for the Jersey shore and Florida. We also had a seasonal site at a campground in the northern Catskills starting in the 70’s. Later, my younger brother Andrew took a seasonal campsite there for his family.. The closing of that campground left Andrew, my mom and my dad without a camping home, which led to the development of the RV sites at Kingswood which Maria Pia and I now enjoy.

As a little boy I was always fascinated by carpentry. My vocation began when I was barely a teenager. I was hired by a would-be mentor to work with his son helping flip houses...
