Events horizon

We're going to start the season and this newsletter with a little tip for everyone presenting vocal events this year. But first, let me clarify that this is a response to a general pattern, not a specific person or organization. I want to see all of you succeed, and we're happy to help whenever possible.

So here's the tip:

Think about how much time you need to publicize your event, and add two weeks. Get the program set, the performer list prepped, get everything ready early. We hear about wonderful events every week that should have been on our desks weeks earlier, when we could actually schedule them in, respond to calls for action, or yes, include them in this newsletter.

While today's email is a little late due to a back injury that made it impossible to sit up last night and get it done on time, we will normally publish bright and early on Friday morning. That means we need your info on the calendar by Wednesday afternoon, or it has no shot. You should have graphics, a great description and all of the info lined up way before then.

I know exactly how hard this is, but I also know that most of you deserve a bigger audience. Make a new season's resolution to do the marketing earlier and I swear, your habits and checklists and whatever you're using will get easier. You can do it, and we'll be watching!

Happy music-making,

Cinderella

Pacific Opera Project

West Hollywood

For the first time ever, Pacific Opera Project (POP) presents a mashup opera of everybody’s favorite fairytale: Cinderella! Taking the best music and funniest scenes from both Massenet’s Cendrillon and Rossini’s Cenerentola, and adding in a little bit of POP magic, POP’s Cinderella Story tells a young girl’s whirlwind love story from housemaid to princess. With twists, turns, and tricks at every corner, and featuring a handsome prince charming, two very evil stepsisters, and an overly dramatic king, this hilarious new take is bound to leave you feeling “happily ever after!”

Andrew Blanch: Spanish Romance - Long Beach

Tier 1 Arts

Long Beach

Spanish Romance is a lovingly crafted journey tracing the Spanish guitar from its origins in the European Baroque with a concerto by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, to masterpieces by 19th-century Spanish composers Isaac Albéniz and Francisco Tárrega before finishing with a selection of South American works from Venezuela to Brazil. The show concludes in Argentina, where Andrew is joined on stage by his partner, Argentinian mezzo-soprano Maria Eugenia Nieva for authentic Argentinian música folklórica. Performing these songs since the age of six, Maria Eugenia’s rich voice transports you directly to her hometown of Mendoza, filling you with joy, romance, nostalgia and everything in between.

“To the Hands,” an Original Staged Choral-Theatrical Production

Pacific Chorale

Costa Mesa

Pacific Chorale, conducted by Artistic Director Robert Istad, launches its 2024-25 season with the premiere of this original staged choral-theatrical production. The program reaches across the centuries with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw’s poignant To the Hands for voices and strings, imploring compassion for the disenfranchised, performed side-by-side with the work it was written in response to – Dieterich Buxtehude's masterful 17th century cantata Ad Manus. Deeply moving and thought-provoking, the 60-minute production features Pacific Chorale’s 16-voice chamber choir with members of Delirium Musicum, a string quintet led by Etienne Gara.
