Chicken-on-a-stick, funnel cakes, ribeye sandwiches, and all the free biscuits you’d ever want! And these are only some of the reasons folks are flocking to the MS State Fair! While they’re coming to enjoy all the fun at the State Fair, the Farmers Market is experiencing some exciting new faces, too. Having only been a part of the Mississippi Farmers Market for just a little over 30 days, the one thing that I’ve noticed and have really come to appreciate is this – the people. Slowing down long enough to listen to a young man share with me about his passion for growing healthy food has inspired me to literally prepare meals for my family from produce that still has soil in its roots. Well, maybe not literally, but you get what I mean. To eat as fresh as I possibly can. And then to slow down long enough to listen to an older lady share with me just how to take one small pumpkin and how it’s just enough to make one entire pie. Now, that fascinated me! And it made me understand why they call it a "pie pumpkin." Oh, and then to slow down long enough to hear a man tell a joke, or a little girl play her fiddle, or watch a farmer sharing small spoons of honey to his tiny little customers … it all made me stand back, not as a manager, but as a person who simply is learning to slow down long enough to appreciate…people.
Come this Saturday to the Farmers Market, even if for no other reason but to enjoy some fun times and great conversations, take in some real smiles, and shop. Then make your way over to the Fairgrounds! I’ll be there, serving up…all the free biscuits you’d ever want!
With Growing Gratitude,
Lisa
