From The Pastor's Desk:
As I write this, I’m reflecting on our partnership in Mission and Ministry over the past few years. My first day as Interim Pastor at Lord of Life was January 8th, 2024. In the intervening 2¾ years we have accomplished much as we served God together. Through it all, God has been faithful, leading us forward, and empowering us to serve in the name of Christ.
There is a new spirit at Lord of Life! To be sure, we have much to do, but we go forward with a firm understanding of our mission together. We understand our core values and live them out. We do not wonder how we will continue to be an active congregation. Instead we walk confidently in faith as we grow in ministry, in worship, in generosity, and in deep hope.
We have much to be thankful for. We have each other. We have great leaders, both lay and staff, who are filled with compassion, determination, and great joy! Most of all, we have the Spirit of God walking with and guiding us. It has been my deepest honor and great joy to be part of all this, and I thank you!
Now we also have Pastor Jason! I am confident that our congregation’s call vote for him will result in even greater growth in ministry and faith, and I am deeply hopeful for our future as the Church! Once Pastor Jason begins, the ministry of the church will be in his hands, and all requests for pastoral care, baptisms, funerals, weddings, etc. should be directed to him. I pledge to support and help Pastor Jason in all things, knowing that our loving God will bring us all together in faith and hope.
Keep praying for Lord of Life, love God with all your might, and follow Jesus every day!
May God’s richest blessings be yours,
Pastor Bary Scott

Focus On Property Ministry
Most of us come to church and have a “routine” experience with the facilities of the building and the grounds around the building. We don’t make a list of all the things that have to been done to have a clean, well maintained, comfortable building in which the lights work, and the temperature is just right, and so on. That’s quite normal, but we would like all church members to think about what it takes to do this and the numerous tasks that the Property Ministry of Lord of Life must do on a regular basis to keep our building and grounds in proper shape.
We are grateful for the volunteers, who help in many different ways to accomplish what needs to be done, but we can always use more help. In trying to keep costs down, we try to do simpler jobs using volunteers if they are available. Some jobs volunteers cannot do, and we need to hire contractors for those task. Some jobs are daily or weekly, some are monthly, some are less often, but all must get done.
One recent area of concern is the alarm system. Did you know if it goes off in the middle of the night or at any other time and day of the week, a property committee member will be called by the alarm company? We have to have someone go to the church building and meet the police there. Right now, we only have one person on that call list. We need more help!
Below are lists of responsibilities and tasks that encompass Property Ministry. Most are “in house” and not hired contractors. I’m sure you will be surprised how many things are listed!
Recent Accomplishments:
-Special September work day. Thank you volunteers!
-Solar panel meter replaced.
-Large, dead pine tree removed from parking lot entrance near sign.
-Estimates received and reviewed for replacing original air conditioner units and converting obsolete fluorescent lighting to LED lights in the FDC/Grace Place building.
-Installation of a LifeVac choking rescue device in the kitchen
24/7:
Alarm system calls
Any emergencies
Weekly:
-Trash/recycling to street
-Checking on completion of janitorial services (Cleaning of the bathrooms and gathering the trash from inside the building is a contract service.)
-Check mouse traps
-Replacing accessible burned out lights
-Check emergency exit lights and replace burned out bulbs
-Lawn cutting by volunteers (in season)
-Checking cleaning supplies, bathroom tissue, etc. and order if needed
-Minor repairs and painting
Ongoing Tasks:
-For all major repairs and maintenance, getting estimates and hiring needed contractors
-Lawn equipment maintenance and repair.
-Dead tree removal
-Cleaning closets in the building (this is not covered by janitorial services)
-All landscaping needs (Bush trimming, weeding, etc.)
-Parking lot maintenance including line painting periodically
-Memorial Gardens maintenance and reparing and digging grave sites
-Cleaning out gutters
-Septic system inspections and maintenance
-Plumbing work
-Electrical work
-Masonry work
-Emergency system maintenance, including emergency exit signs and lighting
-Maintaining the emergency defibrillator
-Monitoring the water softening system, scheduling maintenance, and replacing salt
-Maintenance of the heating and air conditioning systems
-Solar panels and solar system maintenance
-Replacing light bulbs and ballasts in fluorescent fixtures
-Periodic inspection of attic and basements for roof leaks and other maintenance issues
-Termite, pest, and rodent control
-Security and fire system inspections: we must have a Property representative present for the inspections
-Maintenance of fire extinguishers
-Meeting with contractors and review of contracts, proposals, and estimates
-Meeting building and fire inspectors
-Snow plow contracting and monitoring
-Painting
-Power washing
-FDC maintenance including playground maintenance
-Coordinating Fall and Spring cleanups
-Keeping the church and FDC clean
-Cleaning windows
-Maintaining all building supplies such as trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, etc
-It may be necessary for Property Ministry to have someone open the building when contractors are working and to be in the building when work is being done. This will depend on when the work is being done and the nature of the work.
If you think you can help in any way, please contact either Craig Baechler or Keith Lerner. Links to their email addresses are below.

Bible Study:
Wednesdays,
October 7th And 14th
At 10:00 AM
In Fellowship Hall
The Holy Spirit: God’s Presence
and Power at Work in Us
By Adam Hamilton
The Holy Spirit is God's active presence and power at work in the world and in our lives. Through the Spirit, we are transformed, led, empowered, and guided in our faith journey. Jesus promised his followers that the Spirit would come alongside them as comforter and counselor, empowering them to transform the world.
In The Holy Spirit, Adam Hamilton explores what Scripture teaches about God's Spirit―from the Hebrew Bible through Jesus' promises in the Gospels, the powerful Pentecost experience in Acts, and the rich teachings found in the New Testament letters. This accessible study helps believers understand and experience the Holy Spirit's presence and power in their daily walk with Christ.
The topic, start date, and schedule for our next Bible Study will be announced as soon as possible. Watch for notices in weekly emails and during church service announcements.
| | Please sign up on the sheet posted to the Youth bulletin board in the Narthex if you will be bringing you car to the event. | | |

At 11:00 AM
An Invisible Thread
By Laura L. Schroff
And
Alex Tresniwoski
This biography is a remarkable story that is told so beautifully and honestly. Laura Schroff was a successful advertisement sales representative living and working in Manhattan. Maurice was a homeless, eleven-year-old panhandler on the street. He asked for spare change; she kept walking. But then something stopped her in her tracks, and she turned around and went back. And she continued to go back, again and again. They met up nearly every week for years and built an unexpected, life-changing friendship that has today spanned almost three decades. There are 8 copies in the library. The book is 238 pages in length and is rated a 4.3 out of 5.
