Proposals for Intersession 2025
| |
Intersession is a learning opportunity offered to IMSA students between the first and second semesters. Sessions are taught by faculty, staff, students, alumni, and outside guests. Session topics include math, science, cultural studies, hobbies, life skills, and fine arts. Intersession allows students to explore areas of interest outside of the curriculum.
IMSA's 2025 Intersession will be held January 6-10 and January 13-17. Intersession proposals are invited from current and alumni IMSA faculty and staff; current and former IMSA Board members; current and alumni parents; alumni students; and other professional/academic IMSA partners. Current IMSA students may participate as Additional Facilitators, but current students may not be the Primary Facilitator who submits the proposal. Individuals are welcome to submit multiple proposals, and/or be involved in multiple proposals. If the proposals are accepted, attempts will be made to schedule the programs without overlap.
| | The deadline to submit proposals is Monday, October 7, 2023 by 11:59 p.m. | |
On August 16, 2021, the Governor signed House Bill 2400, establishing new requirements for lockdown drills in schools, including that schools conduct at least one law enforcement lockdown drill that addresses an active threat or an active shooter within a school building.
A parent/guardian may exempt their child from participation in the lockdown drill by completing this form. Alternative safety instruction related to an active threat or active shooter will be provided to students who are exempted from the drill.

A Trip to New York During Intersession
By Dr. Evan Glazer, President
| |
Intersession is a two-week period during the first two weeks of January that allows students to engage in learning experiences, many of which are experiential in nature. The local intersession experiences are relatively low-cost, and out-of-town experiences require travel expenses. I'm writing to share that there is still space on one of our New York City trips, with a pending signup deadline of October 11. I have lived in New York City and look forward to showing our students around this vibrant spot of culture and innovation.
We are partnering with Bronx Science High School on a collaborative research project with one of our MSI courses. Students are pairing up now and will work together remotely during the fall term. They will then come together during Intersession for synthesis, presentation, and additional analysis for two half-days in person. In addition to this collaboration, we intend to engage in NYC cultural activities like a show on Broadway, museums, and specialty restaurants. We will also visit the city's professional/university research labs, particularly those where our current alumni are attending or working, so our students can make meaningful connections.
The trip costs $2000 for the week, plus any personal expenses like shopping and snacks. We have seven more spaces on the trip for students who wish to sign up with a $1000 deposit on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please email me at eglazer@imsa.edu if you have questions or wish to connect with me at Family Day on September 28 if you'd like to learn more.

In June, IMSA students Trina Yong '25, Riyan Jain '26, and Aitren Le '26 participated in a medical mission trip to Panama with Global Bridges, an international non-profit organization. The students participated in 4 days of medical clinics in a rural community while developing important skills in triage, medical consultation, dental, medical education, and pharmacy. They were also able to enjoy local cuisine, cultural events, and some sightseeing. While there, Global Bridges was filming new promotional material for recruitment for future High Schools. Riyan was selected as the spokesperson to represent IMSA. This promotional video was recently released in high schools across the United States.
This week, we would like to recognize IMSA's Titan of the Month, Rachel Force. Rachel serves as the Facilities Support Services Specialist, where she goes above and beyond to support initiatives in the facilities department and campus as a whole. She consistently offers her time and leadership wherever needed. Rachel's collaborative spirit and problem-solving skills make her a trusted resource, contributing to the success of various projects around campus. Rachel’s dedication to IMSA and her colleagues is inspiring, and that's what makes her an IMSA Impact Maker. Thank you, Rachel!
