Wichita Fire Department's 15th Chief Michael Mire

Greetings District 5:

I'm excited for the District 5 Breakfast coming up next month as our guest speaker will be the City's new Fire Chief, Michael Mire, who is the Wichita Fire Department's 15th Chief. Mire is a nearly 30-year veteran of the Houston (Texas) Fire Department, most recently serving as an Assistant Fire Chief and overseeing the Emergency Response Command. My wife, Veronica, will again be making the breakfast, so bring your appetite for breakfast casserole, fruit, sweet rolls, and especially bacon!

Updates on 135th Street from Central to 13th

135th Street Bridge under construction September 2026

Work continues on 135th Street, which has been closed to allow for the complete rebuilding of the bridge over the culvert near Coppergate Estates. This is a significant piece of infrastructure, and its installation would've been far more expensive if one lane of 135th was open during its construction. One-way traffic going north should be open in mid-December with full completion in Summer 2027. Questions about 135th Street reconstruction? Bring them to the November 2 District 5 Advisory Board meeting when our colleagues from Public Works & Utilities will give updates on the project.

Is your HOA's contact info current?

Do you have new officers serving in 2026? If so, please make sure your HOA board member listing is up-to-date with the City. As a courtesy, the Metropolitan Area Planning Department will notify a Homeowners Association or Neighborhood Association about zoning cases in their area--but only if they have the correct contact information.

Do you need to update your HOA board listing? Let us know!

Email Community Services Representative Teresa Veazey (tcveazey@wichita.gov), and she will add new officers and their contact info to the Planning Department's HOA/NA database.
