Member Spotlight

Please take a moment to welcome Daniel Borodin. Dan is a Personal Property Appraiser and the new Treasurer of our NorCal Chapter.

  • What do you specialize in, and what are the best circumstances that clients/prospects should come to you for help?

I am a fine art generalist with experience in 19th and 20th century American and European art. I am available to assist clients with insurance appraisals, estate tax and distribution, as well as divorce settlement. I also provide feasibility studies for clients with interest in disposition.

  • Please describe the most interesting project you have had recently

I recently worked on a large collection of Roger Medearis paintings and works on paper. Having known little about this protege of Thomas Hart Benton, it was intriguing to see how Bentons work shaped Medearis’ own compositional choices and painting technique, particularly in his early work.

  • Who has influenced you most in your approach to your work and your professional goals?

My father has always been an important figure in my professional aspirations. Having taken up his mantle in the appraisal world I have learned a great deal about the vast wealth of knowledge that any personal property appraiser must learn and continue to hone throughout their career.

  • What do you enjoy when you’re not working?

Some of my personal passions are reading with my father over the phone, watching subpar easily accessible movies and shows via streaming services, making art, and going on slightly dangerous outdoor excursions..

Real Property

The Northern California Chapter of the Appraisal Institute will be hosting a one-day event of Vineyard Valuations in Napa County planed for early November. We meet to discuss ASA's involvement in the event on July 15. Attendance at the event will give Real Property appraisers 7 hours of CE credit. Nor Cal AI has hosted this event for over twenty years, and it normally has over 200 attendees. The event attracts vineyard owners and managers, winery owners, bankers, consultants, and appraisers. I asked the NorCal chapter to include ASA representatives who value wineries, equipment, and winery businesses, such as BV and MTS members, in the event as either speakers or attendees. They enthusiastically endorsed this idea. We will meet his coming month to focus on ASA’s involvement and, most likely, will be looking for BV and MTS appraisers to participate in the event and be speakers. If any BV or MTS member would like to volunteer to speak, please reach out to Dana Burwell at danaburwell@aol.com
