Upcoming Activity: I-10 Traffic Switches

Right Back to Business: Our crews are hard at work year-round to make sure projects like the I-10 Desert Rehab Project make significant progress in the quickest and safest way possible, all the while upholding exceptional build standards.

Upcoming Traffic Switches

A two-phase traffic switch will occur starting in mid-January. Phase 1, scheduled for Thursday, January 9, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. will include shifting eastbound I-10 traffic to newly paved outside lanes.

Phase 2, scheduled for Thursday, January 16, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. will include the implementation of a temporary detour, shifting westbound traffic onto eastbound lanes using k-rail and other safety devices.

This traffic switch will allow crews to safely access new segments of eastbound and westbound I-10, while maintaining safe roadway conditions for motorists.

As our crews complete this traffic switch, please remember to always be #Workzonealert and watch for our crews and equipment hard at work near live traffic.

Project Background

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
