Help us prepare for Kitten Season

Greetings!

The snowbanks are melting. The days are stretching longer. Soon, muddy paws will be tracking across kitchen floors, windows will be cracked open to welcome warmer air, and spring will officially arrive.

And with it comes Kitten Season.

As sweet as it sounds, and yes, it can be, Kitten Season places fear in the hearts of shelter workers everywhere.

Why?

Because before they are eight weeks old, before they are fully fluffy with bouncing paws and tiny, pricking nails, they arrive.

Dozens at a time. Orphaned. Dehydrated. Covered in parasites. Eyes infected and sealed shut.

Some are so fragile that they require round-the-clock bottle feeding. Some are so young their chances of survival are heartbreakingly low.

Foster homes fill.

Adoption cages fill.

The sick ward fills.

Overflow spaces fill.

And the entire team walks on pins and needles, hoping not to hear the first sneeze or see the first runny nose, knowing an upper respiratory infection can spread faster than a cold in a daycare center.

So how do they hold on?

How do they make sure nearly every needy baby has the chance to grow stronger?

They do it because of you.

It is YOU who donates so the medical team can stock antibiotics, parasite treatments, IV fluids, syringes, and incubators.

It is YOU who sends kitten formula, bottles, heating pads, litter, and endless cans of food.

It is YOU who opens your home as a foster volunteer, accepting the highs and lows, the sleepless nights, the worry when a fragile kitten fades, and the joy when that same kitten grows strong enough for adoption day.

From the days when the snowbanks melt, to the height of summer when the rivers run low, to the first fall of leaves, you are needed most right now.

If you would like to get a jump on Kitten Season, you can:

• Send kitten food or supplies here.

• Make a life-saving donation.

Donate to help keep pets warm

Doesn’t it feel so good to snuggle your furry family members on these cold winter days?

That’s the quality of life you make possible for animals like Regan.

Regan was surviving outside, with nothing but the flimsy plastic wall of a doghouse blocking the cold winds.

A concerned bystander helped Regan’s owners understand it was best to bring the dogs to WCHS.

Donors like you keep the doors open and heat on for animals waiting for loving homes.

Will you help give animals a safe, warm haven this winter with a gift of $50, $100, $150, $200, or anything you can?

With kindest regards,

Maya Richmond,

Executive Director
