Advocating for Community-Centered Housing Solutions

Town Hall: La Playa Safeway Development

The Planning Association for the Richmond (PAR) is hosting a town hall on the proposed demolition and redevelopment of the La Playa Safeway site. The discussion will explain what is proposed, where the project stands today, and how state and local housing laws have allowed it to move forward without the traditional public hearing process. It will also address community concerns about affordability, neighborhood services, transportation, and the future of the Outer Richmond’s only supermarket.

The Tree Vote Is Over. What's Next?

On Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 PM, urban-forestry advocate Josh Klipp will host a webinar examining the state of San Francisco’s tree canopy, what the recently passed Tree Ordinance could mean for our streets and neighborhoods, and where advocates go from here.

Host Josh Klipp: former Vice Chair of the San Francisco Urban Forestry Council, co-founder of Mission Verde, a longtime volunteer Planting Leader with Friends of the Urban Forest, and a San Francisco resident who became a leading voice in the fight over the Tree Ordinance (File 251211). His advocacy was recently covered by KQED and Mission Local.

Please join us, and forward this invitation to neighbors who care about San Francisco’s trees, green space, and the public’s voice in shaping our city.

Supervisor Mahmood's Harmful Shade Ordinance

VOICE OPPOSITION to SHADE ACT LEGISLATION
BOS Board File No. 260539

Attend the Land Use and Transportation Committee hearing to speak on the proposed ordinance.

The legislation has been described as a measure to streamline local CEQA procedures, including removing shadow analysis as a specific environmental impact. But the ordinance goes significantly further. It also proposes broader changes to San Francisco’s local environmental review procedures, including shortening certain CEQA appeal periods and removing some procedures not required by state CEQA law.

The concern is much broader than shadows. Together, these changes would weaken long standing local environmental review procedures and reduce opportunities for public participation.
