Weekly Topics & Overviews:

NOVEMBER 7, 2024 | Noon - 1:00 P.M. ET:

Rethinking Floor Vibration

Presenter: Pengcheng 'Alex' Zhou

Associate | LeMessurier Consultants

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

In this presentation, we will walk through a journey of vibration analysis from the theory to its application, and exploring new solutions to empower engineers. We'll begin by revisiting foundational concepts that underpin our understanding of vibration, such as the Fourier Series, Frequency Response Function (FRF), and signal processing.

Next, we’ll examine how these principles apply to floor vibration analysis in structures built with steel, concrete, and timber, offering practical engineering insights. Finally, we’ll explore how interactive tools we developed can enhance engineers' ability to optimize vibration performance and empower clients to make informed decisions.

NOVEMBER 14, 2024 | Noon - 1:00 P.M. ET:

Vibration Control and Supplemental Damping in Structures

Presenter: Victor Salcedo

President, US Operations | GERB Vibration Control Systems, Inc.

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

This presentation will introduce the audience to supplemental damping and building base isolation for the vibration and seismic control of structures.

Summary of topics:

Supplemental damping with tuned mass dampers and/or wall dampers for:

  • Floors to reduce footfall induced vibration
  • Monumental stairs and bridges to reduce pedestrian induced motion
  • Tall and Slender structures to reduce sway induced motion from wind
  • Performance based seismic and wind design

Buildings and rail base isolation using helical steel springs, and/or polyurethane noise and vibration isolation pads for:

  • Vibration Isolation
  • Seismic protection
