The Courage to Camp

 It takes courage to break from our routines and try something new, to risk discomfort for the sake of different experiences, perspectives and insights. Whether it’s camping or some other way of intentionally varying our routines, moving out of the regular structures and flow of things can bear all kinds of fruits. Join us for a camp-like, outdoor worship service at Spring Lake, where we’ll exchange pews for picnic tables, and gather for stories, music and meditation under the sheltering limbs of a huge oak tree!

*Please note: the picnic site is relatively flat 

and there is parking right in front for those with mobility issues.

Where?

Lower Jackrabbit group picnic area (above the boat launch dock) at Spring Lake Park in East Santa Rosa is a short 15-minute drive from UUCSR. The site is accessed by the Newanga Ave entrance to the park. There is a $8/car entry fee, though this is waived for anyone with a Sonoma County Regional Park Pass. (If you are driving to the park and need financial assistance for the entry fee, please contact Rev. Tovis at rev.tovis@uusantarosa.org.) After passing through the entrance gate, turn left and climb the hill and pass the campgrounds and proceed to the dock. Ample parking is available 100 yards below the picnic area by the boat launch dock. There are limited sites in front of the picnic site that we will prioritize for those with mobility issues. See map on the back.

What if I cannot come out to the park?

For anyone who can only join online or prefers to worship at the Congregation, Gage Purdy and Maura Ryan-Donanue will lead a simple sharing circle at UUCSR at 10:30 am (our usual start time) that will be broadcast on Zoom. We will record the service at the Park and will upload it later on Sunday for anyone who wants to see it. Head on over to the park afterward for lunch!
