Serving Future Generations
Last week the Village Board held two public meetings. At Wednesday's work session we covered an ambitious agenda. One of the most exciting items for me to see moving forward is a Request for Proposals for the Village to finally in earnest reengage with the NYS-DOT to make Route 9 a safer, more welcoming, and functional roadway for all. A key element of this proposal will include a "road diet" that creates a consistent single lane in each direction which allows for more parking, a center turning lane, and safer street crossing for pedestrians. Also of critical importance is improving the intersection with Route 133 to allow for traffic to turn left from Broadway. Getting a design in place is a first step toward getting the NYS-DOT to put us on their list of projects. Thank you to Assemblywoman Sandy Galef for being a champion for this initiative. Thank you to the village management and engineering staff for getting this effort underway. And thank you to the residents who have called for this road to be safer and more functional. Public support is essential for the success of this effort. Click here for the full work session agenda and video link.
Community Connections
I'll be in Village Hall tomorrow for Open Office Hours from 10am until 12noon. Come by to ask a question, offer a suggestion or raise a concern about anything village related. If you prefer to meet me outside, weather permitting, please call my cell phone 914-640-0575 when you arrive and I'll bring a couple of folding chairs onto the front lawn for us.
To reach out by email any hour:
- Mayor Victoria Gearity (gearity@villageofossining.org);
- Board of Trustees (bot@villageofossining.org); or
- Village Manager Karen D'Attore (kdattore@villageofossining.org).
Have you responded to the US Census? If not, expect a visit from a US Census enumerator. An accurate count is essential for our representation in higher levels of government and our access to funding. Click here to respond today!
Fifth Wednesday Means No Meeting this Week
Though there won't be a Village Board meeting this week, we are moving forward with Ossining's Police Reform & Reinvention Working Committee. Click here to read this morning's announcement of the appointed members. The Working Committee members will provide meaningful feedback to the process as well as encourage community engagement. Their role is essential to helping the Village respond to Governor Cuomo's Executive Order 203, the Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative.
With Regards,
