EllisDon Launches Community Builders Group to Deliver Affordable Housing Across Canada

On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, EllisDon announced the launch of EllisDon Community Builders (EDCB), a new group within the company to assist clients who wish to deliver affordable and supportive housing. EDCB will lead the development of housing concepts that will incorporate input from design, construction and operating teams in the earliest stages of projects, while working alongside its clients and partners to ensure the successful delivery of projects on-time and on-budget. Amico, EllisDon, Pomerleau shortlisted for children’s treatment centre Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Grandview Kids announced the narrow field of bidders for the upcoming building project in early February. Teams headed by EllisDon and Pomerleau are in the running, along with a joint venture between Amico Design Build Inc. and Sacyr Construction for the Grandview Children's Treatment Centre Redevelopment project on the eastern edge of the Greater Toronto Area. Ontario construction coalition declares support for inclusive workplaces A coalition of Ontario construction stakeholders has released a statement committing themselves to fighting racism in the construction sector. The coalition has announced its support for the Toronto Declaration of Inclusive Workplaces and Communities, which “affirms the health and safety of every person and supports the construction industry’s zero tolerance policy for discrimination or acts of hate of any kind.” Click here to read the full news article.

A woman’s perspective on life in the construction field

Julie Zabizewski is a project manager and health & safety manager at Toronto, Ont-based Vestacon Ltd. She has managed numerous projects across Ontario and recently helped the firm adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. She held an executive role on the board for the Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) and also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity Women Build and the Toronto Construction Association.
