Report Out Meeting Survey Responses Not Adding Up, Taxpayers Lose Big in Election, Homeless Industrial Complex, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Remember the Report Out Community Tour meetings held by Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade and city councilmembers this year? We attended several of these meetings. The city advertised that citizen input from these meetings would give them the necessary information to craft the 2026 city plan. The summary information the city published after these meetings was illuminating. Would the City of Colorado Springs craft survey responses to fit its preferred political agenda? Find out in our latest original article on this subject.

  • This original, and necessary, reporting would not be possible without the generosity of you, our loyal subscribers. We at Springs Taxpayers United thank you for your support and are always grateful for any support you are able to give.

  • The 2025 Election is in the books, and it was a bad one for taxpayers and liberty. The two-state propositions, LL and MM, both passed easily. These new tax increases will cost taxpayers dearly in order to prop up the taxpayer-funded “free” school lunch program, which has been financially underwater since the program started. This “free” program cost $162 million last year, and that wasn’t enough. So, now, LL and MM will fund this slush fund program with even more taxpayer dollars.

  • The campaigns to pass LL and MM were taxpayer-funded. Yes, they forced you to pay for the promotion of these two propositions, which take even more from you.

  • Proposition MM was created to increase taxes only on those with household incomes exceeding $300,000 per year. This likely made it easier for people to vote for a tax on people other than themselves. However, with rising incomes, this law has the potential of ensnaring the earnings of even more people very soon.

  • In other election news, the Manitou tax on recreation failed, which leaves the town with a potential $4.3 million budget shortfall, despite a 9.03% sales tax rate. Pueblo has elected to keep its mayor. You can review all the election news from around the region here.

  • Denver residents overwhelmingly passed Mayor Johnston’s Vibrant Denver plan. This is despite the current $200 million budget shortfall in The Toilet City. Good luck with that, Denver folks.

  • Speaking of the vibrancy of Denver, RTD will keep elevator doors open at 12 different public transportation stations in an attempt to keep vagrants from using drugs in the closed elevators. Sounds vibrant, and toxic.

  • Would you like the City of Colorado Springs to force you to recycle at your costs? Would you like to be forced to compost food waste as is done in Boulder and Vermont? The city would like your feedback on the issue of recycling in Colorado Springs, as they explore “…opportunities to expand recycling and compost access, programs, and services to residents”. Given how they’ve treated past public survey responses, which direction do you think the “data” will lead them?

  • For those who are unable to afford their ever-increasing heating bills, Colorado Springs Utilities is there to help. The taxpayer-funded Low-Income Energy Assistance Program will be begin accepting applications this Saturday.

  • One "affordable" apartment complex in Colorado Springs has received $1 million in state taxpayer funds. Everything is affordable when someone else is funding it.

  • A recent study discovered what we’ve all known for years. The Homeless Industrial Complex is real, it’s huge, and it supports a great deal of corruption. Many of these nonprofits and bureaucrats exploit the homeless for personal and political gain, and it’s disgusting.

  • The first decade of the 2C repaving program has wrapped up, and the second decade is beginning. Have you seen a positive impact during your commutes?

  • Residents in eastern Colorado Springs are curious when the 2C magic will help them with their mangled streets. Sewer lines have been replaced over the years, and the streets in their neighborhood are like a roller coaster.

  • Colorado is sliding farther and farther down the list of tax-competitive states. Colorado was 32nd in the nation last year, but has now dropped to 33rd. This burden of government has stifled migration to Colorado, which has dropped over 50% in the past decade.

  • One Commerce City family is demanding justice for their murdered teen. Another teen, a 16-year-old, shot and killed their son, and was given probation. Yes, you read that correctly: probation for murder.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each.
