Rain, rain, come again, oh won’t you help my plant’s life to begin.
It’s spring again! After a very wet start to the winter we hit a dry spell; nonetheless, farm activities must go on. Without further ado, let us begin! Since March we have spaded the field, incorporated compost, listed the beds, set up irrigation, picked crops that we are planting for the season, planted the crops, built a fence, sowed seeds and built a compost pile!
They say April showers bring May flowers, well they also bring in the weeds and they came in many shapes and sizes making it our first U pick of the season – U pick weeds, free weeds take as much as you want!

DENISE
Hello, my name is Denise Bloodsaw and I am the new Education Associate for Farm Discovery! I moved to California from Connecticut, where I started my pursuits in Environmental and Outdoor Education. In 2018, I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a degree in Environmental Studies and Environmental Education. ULISES
My name is Ulises Castillo. I am a Watsonville native born and raised. Agriculture has been part of my life since a very young age. Growing up my family would take me to work with them in the raspberry fields. I have been working in the agriculture field since I can remember, taking breaks from it to try other industries, but I have always come back and now have taken my agriculture career to the next level by getting a higher education and working for Farm Discovery in the brand new position of Field Manager.

JUANA
Hello everyone my name is Juana Lona and I am the new intern at Farm Discovery. I grew up at Live Earth Farm. My love for the outdoors grew more while being at the farm working during summers and exploring how organic farm work is beneficial . I am very grateful for this opportunity to teach kids about organic farming and how Live Earth Farm provides fresh produce to our community.

NEW TO TEACHING ON THE FARM - JUANA
Field trips are not only fun to kids, they can also be fun for the teachers. I say this with experience, when I first started I was so nervous and shy then I got used to it and now I'm super excited about having field trips. The joy on kids' faces when they get to meet our farm animals and get to taste one of our perennial fruits like strawberry guavas and oranges.

"I choose to be in Farm Discovery’s Sustainability Circle because I believe that the goodness, nourishment, and lifelong wisdom cultivated at Farm Discovery should continue in perpetuity! EVER GRATEFUL
We are still reflecting on the enormous impact of our supporters during 2021. In partnership with community organizations, we distributed over 70,000 pounds of organic produce to individuals and families in need.
Additionally, Farm Field trips resumed in-person and our summer Farm Care program continued successfully.
The Fall Feast, Time to Shine was our best attended and raised almost double what we raised pre-COVID, about $80k!
It is only through the generosity of our community that we can work together to regenerate our health and the health of farms, the food system and the natural world that supports us all.
