Family Fun & Learning on the Farm
NOTES FROM THE FIELD
WINTER & SPRING CARE
We know first-hand how difficult online schooling has been for students and the strain it puts on families, especially acute for working parents. That’s one reason we have been so happy to offer distance learning support and farm care while schools remain closed to in person instruction.

Just last week we had a winter harvest of beets and broccoli planted in the fall!

Sessions are four weeks long and run MWF 8:45am-4:00pm. To discuss joining the program and your child’s specific program and learning objectives, email Lucie at education@farmdiscovery.org
WELCOME JESSIKA LE MAIRE
Jessika, feels very proud to say that she is a Costa Rican, a country that’s a quarter national park, and where sustainability was a strategy long before the world caught on. Today, she’s grateful for the opportunity to now live in the Santa Cruz mountains and join the Farm Discovery team!
LOOKING FORWARD
SUMMER CAMP
Farm Camp 2021 Registration is Live!
Each session will be full of adventures on the farm, art, cooking and wild crafting (plant ID, fire building, shelter building and more!).

For older youth, we are offering a Leader in Training program that empowers youth through leadership skill building, job training and mentorship from our staff.

VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS
Farm Discovery leads learning and exploration about chickens, omnivores and our own omnivorous diet during our Virtual Field Trips.

“Our in person field trip last year got cancelled so I wanted to make sure my students this year still have an opportunity to go on ‘field trips!’ It was a great time! The kids really enjoyed it,” ~Nicole Thompson, 4th grade teacher at Macquiddy Elementary School.

Middle and High School Virtual Field Trips also available.
FOOD WHAT?! RETURNS
We are very excited to welcome our long time partner, Food What?! back to the farm for in-person programming in March! Youth from Watsonville to Santa Cruz join the FoodWhat?! crew through Spring Internships, Summer Job Training and Fall Project Management programs. FoodWhat?! youth use organic farming, nourishing food and loving community as vehicles to grow on their own terms and in lasting ways.
