Hello friends,
Many of you know and have worked with Nancy Urbanowicz, our Program Manager. Nancy has decided to move on to the next chapter in her journey. While we are sad to see her go, we are deeply grateful for all she has contributed to the Center. Out of respect for Nancy’s wishes, her departure will be low-key, just as she requested, and we honor that with gratitude for service and dedication.
To ensure we continue delivering the same robust programs and services you enjoy, we have already posted the Program Manager position and are actively seeking the right candidate to join our team. In the meantime, our staff remains committed to keeping things running smoothly and supporting you with the same care and dedication you’ve come to expect from the Wake Forest Center for Active Aging.
On a brighter note, I am delighted to welcome Zoe Taylor, our new Community Engagement Manager. Zoe brings prior senior center experience, a wealth of community partnership development expertise, and valuable management experience. Most recently, she worked in Parks and Recreation, where she gained a strong understanding of the Town’s structure and how to build meaningful community connections. She will play a key role in strengthening our operations, expanding partnerships, creating engaging opportunities, and bringing even more life to our programs and activities.
Look out for a full bio on Zoe in our next Aging Advocate monthly newsletter!
With gratitude,
Thomasina

We want to keep you informed about the ongoing HVAC repairs at the Center. As shared previously, certain areas of the building are warmer than usual, while both of our fitness rooms and Meeting Room E are not experiencing HVAC issues.
I’ve requested another update from Facilities, and we’re currently waiting on their timeline. At this time, we understand that the parts are still needed, so repairs have not been completed.
We’re committed to keeping you updated with the most current information we have. In the meantime, please continue to use the Center at your own comfort level. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this together.

New Public Art
Check out the latest Public Art installation at the Wake Forest Center for Active Aging!
Titled “Saturn’s Toy Box,” this sculpture was created by John Ross of Morganton, NC.
Regarding the piece, Ross says, “The feeling is electric; energy passes from the fingertips to cold steel. The marriage of metals. New visions, new vibrations. The rush of creation.”

Volunteer for SHIIP
If you would like to help seniors and people with disabilities in your community who need accurate information about Medicare and other insurance issues, the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) needs you!
SHIIP prides itself on offering excellent services to Medicare beneficiaries, senior citizens, and families across NC, and we couldn’t do it without our wonderful group of volunteers. With the many decisions people with Medicare must make, we can never have too many volunteers to assist the millions of beneficiaries in our state.
For more information on how to become a certified SHIIP counselor at the Wake Forest Center for Active Aging, please contact Program Manager Nancy at 919-713-9245.
