SAME MISSION—NEW NAME
On Sunday, October 18, St. John’s will be welcoming another representative of one of our five charities/ministries funded by the contributions of our members, which they designate to "Missions."
Reverend Hesham Shehab is the pastor of Messiah for Muslims, a congregation located at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard. St. John’s was a founding congregational supporter of this ministry in 2004 and has supported its ministry every year for 22 years.
This ministry, formerly known as Salam Christian Fellowship, reaches out to Muslim asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions living in Northern Illinois. Messiah for Muslims is a beacon of hope, providing Bible studies and nurturing spiritual growth, resettlement assistance, helping Muslim families secure safe and affordable housing, and guiding them through the process of obtaining driver licenses and accessing healthcare services. It holds ESL classes, enabling them to find employment and integrate more fully into American society.
Messiah for Muslims is a gospel-centered ministry caring for our MENA neighbors, continuing the work of Christ’s apostles.
St. John’s is a good steward of the Mission contributions from members of our congregation.

Do you enjoy fresh flowers?
Each week the altar is beautified with fresh flowers given by individuals of St. John’s congregation. Flowers may be given in memory or in honor of someone or some occasion, in thanksgiving of something, or to the glory of God. The flowers may be taken home after the Sunday services for you to enjoy at home or perhaps share with a loved one or someone you wish to share an invitation to worship at St. John’s. The Flower Chart for 2026 is posted in the narthex on the left brick pillar as you walk into the sanctuary. Flowers are $65 for two arrangements. If you wish to sign up for a particular Sunday and someone else has already signed up, we invite you to sign up in addition to another person giving flowers—you can split the $65 cost with the person signed up or purchase an additional two arrangements for $65. Multiple floral arrangements to beautify the altar are always welcome! A member of the Altar Guild will contact you in advance for your dedication.

Kindergarten had a busy week! Lots of indoor play time due to rain, but they still had fun nonetheless! They practiced learning how to be a speaker and a listener when sharing their writing piece—what we like to do. They also made some fall art to decorate the classroom! In chapel, they talked about how God gave us things that grow—our bodies & plants. They got to taste basil!
Our preschoolers had a wonderfully green week as they explored frogs and lily pads! The children used potatoes to stamp and paint their lily pads, and they turned out especially lovely. They wrapped up their pond unit by learning about the life cycle of a frog and taking a closer look at what lives in pond water using magnifying glasses. The letter of the week was O, making this another fun-filled week of hands-on learning and exploration.
| | | | Sign up for a great fellowship opportunity by serving coffee and providing tasty treats in between church services | | |
