Special Edition of Folklore Magazine: Post-World War II Immigration to Saskatchewan

Pitches for the Folklore Magazine Special Edition are due on October 20, 2026!

Published quarterly since 1979, Folklore is a unique venue for sharing stories of Saskatchewan. Folklore shares history through the lens of everyday people's lived experiences and local, regional, and community histories. “People stories” are one of the magazine’s strengths—stories of events, daily life, family, humour, and unique experiences.

This Special Edition is made possible by a generous bequest from longtime Folklore subscriber Lena Woolley, who passed in 2024. The Special Edition’s starting point is a theme touching on Lena's life: post-World War II immigration to SK.

We’re looking for submissions that reflect a variety of perspectives on Saskatchewan post-war immigration, that reflect a diversity of time periods, experiences and angles, including (but not limited to) war brides, displaced persons and political refugees, economic migrants, people impacted by historical forces in the wake of WWII (up to and including the present day), and more.

Exciting opportunities await young singers across Saskatchewan through the 2026/27 Saskatchewan Youth Choir (SYC), featuring guest conductor Kitbielle Pasagui!

Celebrating Community Recreation at the Rural Rec Prac Gathering!

A big thank you to the Lakeland District participants who represented our district and the community recreation sector at the Rural Rec Prac Gathering in Warman on September 22!

This wonderful gathering was a joint effort between Prairie Central, Rivers West, Lakeland District, and SPRA, bringing recreation professionals together for a valuable day of connection, collaboration, and learning.

Opportunities like these are a great way to network, share ideas and experiences, learn from one another, and strengthen the community recreation sector across Saskatchewan. By coming together, we can celebrate successes, exchange knowledge, and bring new ideas and inspiration back to the communities we serve.

We are grateful to everyone who took the time to participate, contribute, and represent the Lakeland District. Thank you for helping make the day a success and for the important work you do to support recreation in our communities!

Stronger connections. Shared learning. Thriving communities.

💚💛 Rec Prac Gathering | Carrot River 2026 💛💚

A big THANK YOU to all the Recreation Practitioners who joined us in Carrot River for our Rec Prac Gathering! 🙌

These gatherings are about so much more than meetings. They’re an opportunity to share knowledge, learn from one another, exchange ideas, and take home new perspectives and inspiration to put into practice in our own communities.

A special thank you to the Carrot River Arts & Cultural Council for welcoming us and providing a tour of their incredible facility! We appreciate the opportunity to see what’s happening in Carrot River and learn more about the great work being done in their community. 💚

One thing is certain — you can’t put a price on connection! Building relationships, growing our networks, sharing experiences, and learning from one another makes our recreation community stronger. 🌱

Thank you for taking the time to come together, share your knowledge, and support one another in the important work you do across the Lakeland District.

Here’s to continued learning, collaboration, and connection! 💚💛
