Standing in Solidarity

The Bolsa Chica Land Trust stands in solidarity with our public lands and conservation agencies, and our hearts go out to the dedicated staff with the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and US Fish and Wildlife Service who recently lost their jobs.

We know first-hand how important trained and knowledgeable staff are to preserving and restoring open space, and inspiring the next generations of environmental stewards.

We are deeply saddened by the loss this will bring to the nation's national parks and public lands and are greatly worried about the long-term effects this will have on our irreplaceable natural landscapes.

Thank You!

Late last year we asked our members and supporters to help us raise $30,000 to fund urgently needed infrastructure repairs within the wetlands of Bolsa Chica. We were humbled by the response, as the donations came in and we surpassed the $30,000 goal.

Your support means that these repairs are now underway, which will not only help keep the wetland habitats healthy but will also allow the California Department of Fish and Wildlife staff to focus on other incredibly important work. We are deeply grateful for your response to this urgent need.

There is always much to do at Bolsa Chica, and we are energized by our members who care and contribute to improve the health of the wetlands and mesa, the habitats that our beautiful wildlife calls home. Thank you!

We are always interested in hearing from you dear readers. What content do you want to see, and how often and where (inboxes, social media, physical mailings) do you want us to reach out to you? Any other comments or suggestions? If you like our e-newsletters please consider sharing it with your friends and family. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter to catch our weekly "Wildlife Wednesdays" and current events as we share with you what we see and find every week!

Common Yellowthroat by Brian Goebel

March's Animal of the Month: Common Yellowthroat

As its name implies, this delightful little bird is one of the most widespread and successful warblers in the USA. The adult male has a characteristic black bandit mask and a bright yellow throat and underside, and an olive-brown back. Females have more subdued coloring. The

diet of the Common Yellowthroat consists of spiders, insects, and a few seeds. Visitors to Bolsa Chica’s south lot are often greeted by the Yellowthroat’s distinctive song: “wichity wichity wichity wich” coming

from the pickleweed. Habitats include bushes, grassy areas, and marshes. In May this species migrates north in family groups with the Bolsa Chica having some wintering groups going north to nest, some being year-round residents and others migrating in from the south to nest.

5”long; 6.75” wingspan; 0.35 ounces
