In late May the Chapter bid farewell to retiring member, Angel Gonzalez. He was an asset to the chapter and will be missed by all.
This was Justin Romano's first meeting as President, and more than 50 members and guests including about 20 technicians were in attendance. It was a packed house and everyone enjoyed a great presentation by John Levey on Biofuels.
Thanks to Mike Dwyer for his great photos. We look forward to seeing everyone at the golf outing on June 17.

In April, the South Jersey Chapter met at Carlucci's Waterfront Restaurant in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Attendees enjoyed a good meal and an informative presentation by Mark Love of Chemours about the future of refrigerants.

The Westchester Chapter held its first post-Covid in-person meeting last month. There was an excellent turnout and we welcomed back our membership without masks. It was a wonderful experience making the membership feel connected for the first time in a long time. Jim DePalma of Wales Darby presented a seminar on Fujitsu Mini Split units. He showed all the opportunities for these "newly" designed units and how much more flexible they are at problem solving for the local contractors.
One of their biggest challenges has been training, which they have been unable to accomplish in-person. But, thankfully, things are beginning to return to normal.
The membership was very appreciative of Jim’s excellent presentation. In his talk, he covered uses, installations, troubleshooting while giving a very comprehensive overview of the product line.

Last month, the Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter hosted 16 members and guests at the Lyndon Diner in Lancaster to hear from Rosemarie Bartchak of Boyertown Furnace. Rosemarie discussed how technicians can reduce the size of older commercial boilers by installing multiple smaller boilers to meet peak demand. With the right controls, the multiple smaller units can save on operating costs.
The Chapter warmly welcomed to the meeting Alan Mercurio of PPA Tech and three students from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

On May 13, 32 members and guests of the New Haven OESP Chapter assembled at The F. Perrelli & Sons Oil Company for the monthly meeting. Everyone enjoyed a buffet dinner from Brazi's restaurant and then were treated to a live fire demonstration of the Energy Kinetics boiler line presented by Mark Santangelo. Tom Tubman from American Energy Coalition gave a brief report on its plans.

|
Last month’s meeting for the Delaware Valley Chapter had 16 people in attendance.
Mark Love from Chemours spoke about the future of refrigerants for AC units, covering replacements for phased out refrigerants like R22, etc.

In May, the Garden State Chapter held its meeting at Libretti’s in Orange, NJ.
The 18 attendees, including 3 technicians, enjoyed a discussion by Dave Domanick from Arzel Zoning Technology about the basics of warm air zoning and how it can be profitable for the contractor and supply comfort to the homeowner.
The Chapter will take the summer off, hosting the next meeting on September 15.

The annual fishing trip will be held on Friday July 23 and the second annual Jim Finan golf outing will be held in September. More information will follow.

Message from the Executive Director
|
May was a very exciting month for OESP. We were finally able to meet in person again after 20 long months of separation! We held our Board of Director’s retreat in Berkeley Heights, NJ and celebrated being back together with our annual scholarship and awards presentations. It was such an honor to be there with you as we recognized our greatest and most deserving achievers.
When we got home, the virtual Eastern Energy Expo kicked off, May 24-26. We coordinated and held 38 hours of training over three days. We are tremendously proud of this accomplishment as an Association and owe a great deal of thanks to our education committee for their efforts in arranging such intense programming.
Thank you to committee co-chairs Jason Mangos and Dave Holdorf along with committee members: Bob O’Brien, Angel Gonzalez, George Perrelli, Rick Pothier, Curtis Reynolds, Jeff Rozga, Matt Spink and Scott Vadino
By bringing the Expo directly to participants’ computers using a dynamic event platform, EEE has continued to serve the energy and comfort industries.
While we couldn’t replace the face-to-face networking of an in-person show, we worked hard to ensure this year’s event provided all participants, attendees, exhibitors and sponsors an effective way to interact. OESP was pleased to continue to bring you the quality educational programs that we are famous for, regardless of the pandemic. And again, courses were completely free! Missed a class? They are now available online for download.
Save the date as we return to an in-person EEE, May 22-25, 2022 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. We’ll have the return of the Care to Ride and the Dave Nelsen Scholarship golf outing as well. We can’t wait to see you.
By now, you have seen plenty from our great and generous advertisers. Taco, R.W. Beckett, Suntec Industries, Carlin/Hyrdolevel, General Filters, Wohler, Sid Harvey, Roth and Weil-McLain. And I am proud to welcome Energy Kinetics as a new Corporate Partner for 2021. Their logos are displayed prominently at the top of this issue. Call us so your logo can be there next time!
Our Oil Heat Cares program has been on the move in every region of OESP with installations being done consistently. Thank you to the team led by OHC Chair Dave Bessette for enabling well-deserving people to be warm and safe over the past winter.
Also, thank you to the service companies who have generously donated their time. We are tremendously proud of Oil Heat Cares. My deepest appreciation also goes to the chapters that so generously donated funds to Oil Heat Cares at the BOD meeting last month. Your donations will go a long way toward rebuilding the funds so that more people can have heat next winter. Anyone wishing to donate can do so HERE.
The fall Oilheat Retreat will be held September 23-26, 2021 at the Lehigh Valley Hotel in Bethlehem, PA. More details will be coming this summer. Save the date!
On behalf of Jonathan Jaffe, Sean Conklin, Meredith Levy and the rest of the OESP management team, it continues to be a pleasure to serve such a dedicated organization of professionals.
