Great Things are Happening Every Day in Academic Affairs
Sundra Kincey, Ph.D., associate vice president of program quality, was recently appointed Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on College (SACSCOC) liaison.

Her new responsibilities will include ensuring FAMU adheres to SACSCOC’s accreditation standards, while also keeping the University’s stakeholders abreast of SACSCOC’s policies and procedures.

“I’m honored to be appointed to this new opportunity. It is in alignment with my current role, and it will allow me to collaborate with our team on a broader level to maintain the University’s educational quality and effectiveness,” she said. “Meeting SACSCOC standards helps the University remain a top-ranking HBCU and I am extremely proud to be involved in that endeavor.”

Kincey, whose more than 20-year career includes experience at the university and state levels, is highly skilled in policy analysis and development, academic program review and evaluation, specialized accreditation and academic advising.

Maurice Edington, Ph.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, and FAMU’s former SACSCOC liaison, selected Kincey for the role.

“Dr. Kincey’s background and expertise, along with her exceptional ability to guide certification processes, will substantially contribute to the University’s efforts to remain in compliance with SACSCOC accreditation standards,” he said. “Her penchant for extracting and applying minute, but essential details, will also prove to be a crucial element in the review process.”

FAMU last received full accreditation in 2018, and the University will repeat the process in 2028. Additionally, Kincey is currently collaborating with the University’s leadership to coordinate activities for FAMU’s fifth-year interim accreditation assessment, which will occur in 2025.

Kincey is an inaugural member of FAMU’s Leadership Academy and has conducted research in the resistance, persistence and academic success of minority students. She also serves as a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant evaluator and critiques select peer-reviewed journals.

As described on its website, SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions awarding associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees.
