Lent at St. John's

Lent 2026 exploring prayer (2550 x 1200 px).jpg

5:30 pm Dinner | 6:00 pm Program

“Prayer is responding to God, by thought and by deeds, with or without words” (BCP, p. 856)

Prayer takes many forms. Some are quiet and contemplative; others are active, embodied, and creative. This Lent, join us on Wednesday evenings as we explore a variety of ways to pray, ways that invite stillness and movement, reflection and action, as we seek to deepen our prayer lives and our relationship with God.

Wednesday, March 11

Learn to pray with icons with Jeanne Ackerman and engage the Anglican Rosary with Fr. Chase, combining sacred imagery with rhythmic, meditative prayer.

Upcoming weeks

March 18 | Poetry, reflection, and journaling with Harry Moore.

March 25 | Ignatian prayer and intercessory prayer cards with Fr. Chase.

For dinner, a $5 per plate donation is requested; $20 max per family.

Please contact Melba Middleton at 256-651-1058 if you, your family, or your group would like to host an upcoming dinner. Nothing fancy is required--just a family meal we’ll enjoy together. And your expenses will be reimbursed.

Spring Holy Hikes are Here!

Saturday, March 14

Church of the Good Shepherd, Decatur

9:00 am!

This first Spring hike will take us to Indian Tomb Hollow where we hope to enjoy the gifts of Spring, as well as learn a little history of the area. If you would like to share a ride and/or follow us there, please plan to meet us at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Decatur at 9:00 am. If it suits you better to meet us in Moulton at the Warrior Trading Post, we will stop there at about 10:40 am for any needed snacks or water before reaching our destination.

This hike is easy- to- moderate, with an uneven road to follow, and a couple of creek crossings. Please dress for the weather, and wear appropriate footwear. Bring water, a snack, camera, hiking pole, or anything else you may need for about two hours in the woods. See you there! Questions? Learn more HERE, or call 256-221-4091.

HERO ACADEMY VBS: SERVING LIKE THE SAINTS

Monday, June 22-Friday, June 26

9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Inspired by the lives of saints like Francis and Martin of Tours and Therese and Catherine, St. John’s Hero Academy VBS invites children to consider how following Jesus’ call to love and serve others is the most heroic thing of all. Children will create projects in the Hero Maker Design Studio, play high-energy games in the Gamer’s Gauntlet, hear stories of the faithful in the Hero Archives, and relax with a treat or two and the Holy Hero Caf?. All the while, they will discover that we can indeed serve like the saints!

This year, we are partnering with the 3rd Street Boys and Girls Club once more and hope to show God’s love and care to even more children than last year! But this means that WE NEED YOUR HELP! IF you would like to volunteer to help with VBS, read the volunteer descriptions HERE. Then sign up next to your desired work area with your name and availability HERE.

Common Ground Community Garden

Did you know that World Wildlife Day was March 3? Well, it got past us also, but because wildlife is so important to our ecosystem, here's a reminder. Even if you can only do one little corner for conservation, it helps. Together we can make a difference!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for Spring Cleanup at Common Ground at 9 am (or whenever you can join us). We could use the help!
