| | | | | Faith Drives Civic Engagement | | POSTCARD FROM MISSION u RETREAT 2026! | | |
We had a great time Experiencing Emmanuel at the Mission u Retreat!! It was wonderful to be in fellowship with sisters and new friends from across the conference. It was a good study. We learned new things looking at familiar Bible stories from new perpectives and connecting our own faith journeys.
A highlight was getting to know more about the life of Lydia Patterson students from our 2 guests, Rubi and Itzel, LPI graduates and current college students.
There are a lot of us squeezed into that picture! Click to see more pictures from our time together - class time, worship time, and lots of fellowship time!! See photos.

Mini-Retreat "Be ye yeasty!"
| |
Karen Kaigler-Walker, HTC Spiritual Growth & Soul Care Coordinator
Soul Care Mini-Retreat: Leaven
Thursday, July 30th 10 am OR 6:30 pm
In his book, The Kingdom of the Poor: My Journey Home, Fr. Charlie Strobel highlights,
"Blessed are those who break bread together, for they shall find God in their midst.” Well, yeah! Don’t we know this? Haven’t we always known that this the reason we practice Holy Communion? Surprisingly, the answer isn’t a simple yes or no, but a both/and. Some of us know this, but some think the symbolic bread is only a reminder of Jesus death and resurrection. This, in itself, is beautiful, but it’s only honoring half the rich symbolism of the communal loaf.
The bread is both a commemoration of God/Jesus in us and a commemoration of us in God/Jesus—a two-way street that navigates us in the Christian life. Jesus shares the bread of His life, and we take and become yeasty bread ourselves. Then we share it with the world.
Jesus as the “Bread of Life” represents the essential, soul-sustaining nourishment believers receive through a relationship with Him. Asking us to be “yeast” means He empowers us to absorb His nature and actively permeate the world, spreading His Kin-dom quietly but powerfully from the inside out.
Join us via Zoom on July 30 at either 10:00am or 6:30pm as we discuss what it means to be yeasty in God. Register here to get zoom link & reading ahead.
All women are welcome, not just UWFaith members or members of the UMC. Everyone!

Children as Young as 10
A Crisis of Arrests In Texas Schools!
A groundbreaking data analysis shows how districts across the state of Texas are arresting and citing children for common misbehavior. Of course, this leaves children with lasting trauma. The Texas Legislature has rejected bills to raise the age of criminal responsibility and sends schools even more police. Click to read the report and please consider mobilizing your group on one of the UWFaith ongoing legislative advocacy campaigns to interrupt the school-to-prison pipeline.
