Please Attend Public Meeting to Oppose PSEG Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
through the heart of the Greenbelt
Tuesday, June 28, 6:30 p.m.
LTV Studios, 75 Industrial Road, Wainscott
Calling all FLPG members and concerned citizens, it is time to mobilize! We must show up in significant numbers at the public meeting on June 28th to oppose PSEG’s proposal to drill an underground 69kv transmission cable through the heart of the Greenbelt. If PSEG is granted underground rights through the Greenbelt, this irreplaceable coastal plain pond system and the enormous investment of taxpayer dollars to preserve it will be at risk. To learn more about the PSEG proposal, the environmental impact, and what you can do to help, visit https://longpondgreenbelt.org/
Drew Harvey, A Quiet Force in the Greenbelt
Lately, you may have noticed how the Greenbelt is looking in tip-top shape. Blazes and trail signs are in place. Trails have been cleared of fallen trees. Invasive shrubs and the old goat barn have been removed from Vineyard Field. The quiet force behind this is Drew Harvey, co-founder of Dawgpatch Bandits, a non-profit group whose mission is to inspire action, build a better community, and support individuals in their recovery from opioid addiction. The Dawgpatch Bandits posted their reasons for teaming up with FLPG on their website: “[We] believe that maintenance of the trail systems and public water access points are essential to keeping natural resources found in our community open for individuals to enjoy. These trail systems and water access points are essential to push open air fitness, and positive outdoor recreation that helps to promote a healthy lifestyle”. FLPG commends you, bravo! Mary Morgan, Drawdown East End
On Sunday, July 17, Mary Morgan will provide insight into how our individual choices can help achieve “drawdown”—the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline. Mary co-founded Drawdown East End, a local grassroots organization based on Project Drawdown, a global project founded in 2014 and publicized in the New York Times bestseller Drawdown, a leading resource for information and insight about climate solutions. Mary will also explain how nature-based solutions like FLPG’s efforts to protect and restore the wetlands and woodlands of the LPG help to sequester carbon dioxide and reverse global warming.
