Dear Friend of Koinonia,
I hope you’re ready—this is a story about toilets!
Last summer at Nature Camp, the children had just one complaint: the pit privies. To avoid them, everyone queued up for a single rented porta-john. Some of our youngest campers (ages 4-6) were so reluctant to use the dark, smelly privies that accidents happened, and more than one child was heartbroken after dropping a beloved stuffed animal down the hole, lost forever.
That’s why, after two years of planning, designing, and fundraising, I’m thrilled to tell you: the Oasis Shower House is becoming a reality. As of today, all contractors are on board and construction is moving quickly. We are on track to welcome back campers on June 28th with a beautiful new facility!
The Oasis Shower House features 4 flush toilets, 3 showers, and an ADA-accessible toilet and shower stall. It will transform the camp experience for campers, staff, and families staying in our campground and visiting our grounds. Together, we’re creating a space that’s not only functional but also welcoming—a memorable place to congregate, all under one protective overhang roof.
We have so much to celebrate thanks to supporters like you.
I invite you to help us get ready for all the other essential parts of summer with a gift of $100, $250, $500, or more. Cick HERE for a list of items yet to be purchased this year. I am grateful to share that every dollar you give now will be matched, up to $50,000, through a generous challenge from the Jeanine Heller Foundation. At this point, we have only $28,000 to go!
Thank you for being part of a thriving ministry that allows children and families to experience the joy, growth, and community that makes Koinonia so special.
In Christ,
Dr. Kathleen Kristin Ruen
