Please be in prayer for our mission team members who will be serving in Ashe County, North Carolina, Sunday, November 1 - Saturday, November 7. We have 15 people going on our trip and will be staying at a local church near West Jefferson, NC. There, the Western North Carolina Conference is continuing to help homeowners recover from the devastating flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene two years ago! It is a long process, and we are proud to serve under the Western North Carolina Conference and UMVIM, United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, who pride themselves on being the last recovery organization to leave impacted areas and to "turn out the lights when they leave." This work will probably continue for another one to two years and finish long after most people have forgotten about the storm—but not those living in communities damaged by the floodwaters. Please pray for our team's safety and that we bring the love of God to the area through our hands and feet.

Everyone is invited to attend, whether you have read the book or not. See you there.

This was Celebration Sunday, October 25, 2026, the culmination of our Fall Stewardship Campaign “Giving as an Act of Worship.” The Fellowship Hall and the Welcome Center were filled with food, fellowship, and friendship as we celebrated God’s bountiful generosity and expressed our gratitude for His abundant blessings. Thanks to everyone for sharing this wonderful meal together. We also thank God for the Hospitality Committee and Kitchen Crew, who planned, prepared, and served this meal with such joyful hearts. Their service today, as always, is a beautiful act of worship.

Bethlehem's youth enjoyed a hike up Sharp Top at the Peaks of Otter. Thank you to Frank Nelson and Dave Hudgins for leading this fun group outing.

The United Women in Faith raised $2,228 at the recent Boomer Band Concert at the church. The proceeds will support Food For Kids and Bethlehem Preschool. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed and helped make this fundraiser a success.

Before John Glenn orbited the earth, or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as “human computers” used pencils, slide rules, and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets, and astronauts, into space. Christine Darden, Dorothy Vaughn, Katherine Johnson, and Mary Jackson, originally math teachers in the South’s segregated public schools, answered their country’s call during the labor shortages of World War II. Many years later, in 2015, Katherine Johnson was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Written by Margot Lee Shetterly, and published in 2016, the book, Hidden Figures, is in our library, shelved in the Inspiration section. Check it out.

Thank you,

Listen to the Birds

Every day, I try to get outside to listen for the sounds of Nature. During the previous week did you have an opportunity to take a walk in the woods, or just go outside and listen to the birds? The creation often sparks joy and thanksgiving. Nature renews, stirs a sense of awe, and reveals God’s continual self-giving love.

In the Biblical understanding, all species praise God in their own way. This affirms that humans are not the only creatures who deserve the right to live and relate with their Creator. God’s embrace extends to the whole household of life. In a time when the human impact on the natural world has reached levels unimaginable in the history of our planet, it is crucial for the Church to step up boldly to rally society to honor and value all creatures and ecosystems. Creation is waiting for us to be bold, to be faithful to our calling from God to protect all life and all of creation.
