The current administration's policies threaten RIBBA’s very existence.

RIBBA was founded to close the racial wealth gap and foster generational wealth through entrepreneurship and workforce development. Executive orders banning DEI training and limiting funding for programs focused on racial equity severely restrict RIBBA's ability to advance its mission, making it harder to secure federal, state, and private funding. The uncertainty around federal funding and a shift from DEI support from private companies and investors alike will negatively impact the way we do business and limit our ability to drive economic growth and sustainability.

Federal grants are vital for funding programs that train workers, support small businesses, and tackle critical economic disparities. Without these resources, we face severe consequences. We have already initiated staffing cuts, and are dangerously close to a point where we can no longer effectively carry out our mission-driven work. The lack of financial support is affecting our very ability to serve those who need us the most. This is not just about RIBBA; it is about preserving opportunities, strengthening local economies, and ensuring that underserved and marginalized communities receive the support they need.

The lack of DEI support will undermine essential programs aimed at creating equitable opportunities, leaving organizations like RIBBA to navigate an increasingly hostile landscape. The ramifications include our ability to build sustainable pathways for economic empowerment and prosperity in economically under-resourced communities. Despite these challenges, RIBBA remains committed to serving our community through our robust programming for our Small Business Development, Workforce Development, and Mentorship programs.

For 15 years, RIBBA has been a vital asset in Rhode Island, creating pathways to success for countless businesses and individuals. To date, we have served over 6,000 businesses resulting in 100,000 technical assistance hours. Participants of our Workforce Development programs have experienced 10-15% average wage increase and 100% career growth or increase in responsibilities. We serve as a beacon of hope for those in need. The successes of our programs have made it extremely clear that the work we do is essential to our state’s economic growth through job creation and upskilling the workforce. It would be a devastating loss to our state if we were forced to shut down.

We are a small grassroots organization that relies on the support of our community. Now, more than ever RIBBA needs your help to close this financial gap and continue our mission-driven work. Please donate today and encourage your network to help us keep RIBBA’s work alive. Call us for a meeting to discuss how you can help at 401-383-1179 or email Lisa at Lisa@ribba.org.
