The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Genesis 1:1-2:4a

The beginning! Each September we begin a new cycle of readings, giving us a chance to say ‘Happy New Year’ in a different context. Maybe it is helpful to you to think of the change of pace many of us experience at this time of year as a chance to change some things or maybe to try something new. We will be trying some new things at GLC this fall and are always looking to do old things in new ways. This weekend you can learn about ministries from people who are part of them… maybe you’ll see your gifts in a new way and join God’s continual work of creation!

Creator God, You made humans in Your image and have gifted us to be Your hands and feet in the world, giving us the example of Your Son Jesus to lead us. Open our eyes to see how to follow! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

Where do our Sunday readings come from?

Festival of the Vine is happening this Saturday. The church parking lot will be blocked off and reserved for those attending worship. Festival of the Vine will NOT affect Sunday worship!

• Everything in heaven and on earth bears your signature. May we ever rejoice that you have made us, and that you have made us your own.
• May we never forget that we were brought forth by your creative hand, as we carry out our duty to care for all that lives.
• Guide all those who lead our various levels of societal organization that they might be attentive to and work for the needs of each and every one of us.
• Just as your spirit first brought our clay to life, so now breathe your healing into all who crave wholeness.
• Give courage to the disenfranchised to stand for justice and reparation, and to also find a peace in you that no other could possibly give—or take away.
• Join us eternally with our sisters and brothers living in your light perpetual, that we may one day join hands again as your heavenly family.

We lift all these prayers, and those of our hearts, to your loving care, O God. Receive them and restore our hope in your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

As our congregation grows, we are making space to bring in an Associate Pastor to help serve our members and community, and to expand our mission at GLC. We are seeking four more members to serve on our Call Committe to assist in recruiting, interviewing and providing input during the process. The call committee should represent all parts of the congregation with appropriate variety of genders and ages. If you are interested in learning more and/or to express your interest in this committee, please reach out to Monica Noonan at 773-255-9006.
