PrairiesCan Regional Tariff

Response Initiative (RTRI)

The Government of Canada has expanded supports to help affected businesses manage cash-flow pressures, retain workers, adapt operations, and diversify markets.

For Prairie businesses, RTRI is a key place to start. It can help eligible small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) respond to immediate tariff pressures, address liquidity concerns, and invest in long-term resilience.

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of Alberta Study

We were asked to share this opportunity with our business community for those interested in contributing to research focused on improving the return-to-work experience for Alberta employees and employers.

A bit about us and the study:

Penner Research & Consulting Inc. is a private research consulting firm based in Vancouver, BC. We're conducting a study on Alberta’s return-to-work (RT)W system for employees who’ve experienced injury or illness and the employers/managers supporting their return to the workplace. The study is being funded by the WCB Alberta and has received approval from the Community Research Ethics Office (CREO).

We're looking at what helps and what hinders returning to work — workplace support, communication, psychological safety, and stigma — and how return-to-work processes can be improved for Albertan workers, employers, and the system itself.

We're inviting three groups to take part:

  • Workers who have returned, or tried to return, to work after a physical or mental health injury in the past five years

  • Employers and managers who support employees with the return to work process

  • Return-to-work coordinators & disability-management professionals who support both employers and employees with the RTW

Participation involves completing an online survey — roughly 10 to 25 minutes depending on the role — and is voluntary and 100% confidential. Participants can skip any question and stop at any time. Additionally, participants can optionally volunteer for a follow-up virtual interview.

There's an optional draw for one of several $50 e-gift cards for participating in the survey. No identifying information is shared with the WCB-Alberta or anyone else outside of Penner Research & Consulting Inc.

Navigating the Changing Trade Landscape: Resources for Stettler Businesses

The Canadian business landscape continues to evolve as tariffs and other trade measures create new challenges for businesses across the country. As of September 8, 2026, new Canadian counter-tariffs on selected U.S. goods are in effect.

For local businesses, the impact will vary depending on factors such as what a business imports, where products and inputs are sourced, supply chains and whether the business sells into international markets.

Voices of Alberta Entrepreneurs with Michael Emery

October 8 at 12:00p.m.

Free Webinar

Entrepreneurship rarely follows a straight line. Sometimes the experiences that seem unrelated along the way are the ones that ultimately shape how we work, what we value and where we go next.

Join us for Voices of Alberta Entrepreneurs, featuring Michael Emery, founder of Unique Soapstone Experiences, for a candid conversation about entrepreneurship, creativity and learning to embrace the unexpected.

Michael’s entrepreneurial journey has spanned decades and includes different businesses, professions and creative pursuits. Today, alongside Unique Soapstone Experiences, he runs Echoes in Stone, Empowerment GSI and Michael Emery Consulting. Rather than seeing these as separate paths, Michael views them as connected experiences that have helped him better understand how he works, what matters to him and how he recognizes possibility.

At the heart of Michael’s approach is a philosophy he calls Leave Your CAN’T at the Door™. For Michael, “can’t” isn’t limited to self-doubt. It can also show up in the expectations we place on ourselves — believing we have to follow a certain path, should do things a particular way, or must have everything figured out before moving forward.

In this conversation, Michael will share how learning to let go of those expectations has influenced the way he approaches business, relationships, creativity and opportunity. He’ll also explore the idea of getting “out of your head and into your hands” — paying attention to what is in front of you, recognizing connections as they emerge and being willing to adjust direction along the way.

Through Michael’s story, we’ll explore an entrepreneurial journey built not around having the perfect roadmap, but around curiosity, adaptability and the willingness to begin without knowing exactly where the road will lead.

Business to Business

For almost four years, A Seat at the Table has been about something very simple: bringing people together over a good meal.

Our next supper is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14.

But to keep it going, we need a few more hands around the table.

The Stettler Ag Society is happy to continue providing a welcoming space and being part of this program, but we are looking for more community involvement to help with the cooking, organizing and costs of future meals.

Maybe your business would like to sponsor a supper. Maybe your church, service club, organization, family or group of friends would like to cook one. Maybe you can help with groceries, preparation or cleanup.

If A Seat at the Table is something you believe is worth keeping in our community, we’d love to hear from you. Please send us a message if you would like to be involved - stettlerag@gmail.com
