The 17-state Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC), North America’s oldest and largest regional economic development association, representing the top economy builders in the world’s premier investment location, has named Jackson Petr as its Director of Membership Engagement.

Petr currently leads national business development operations for Marketing Alliance, where he has built relationships with and served economic developers and chamber leaders throughout the United States, particularly in the American South. He has also developed a strong following within the profession through his social media interview series and his book, “1,001 Voices of Economic Development,” which highlights economic developers.

Petr is already deeply involved in SEDC, serving on the Council’s 2026 80th Anniversary, Communications, Emerging Leaders, Membership, and Golf Committees. He also played an instrumental role in key networking initiatives at the 2026 SEDC Annual Conference in Bonita Springs, Florida. His appointment builds on that service and his relationships across the Council.

As Director of Membership Engagement, Petr will focus on growing and strengthening SEDC’s membership, building lasting partnerships, and helping members and investors realize greater value from their involvement. He will represent the Council across the American South and lead marketing efforts that raise SEDC’s visibility, showcase the leaders driving the region’s success, and promote the American South’s global leadership in business investment and economic development. “I’m looking forward to connecting with our members, supporting our investors, telling the story on why the American South is the number one place for business,” Petr said in a video statement released on LinkedIn. “Stay tuned!”
