A Message from ORES Principal Denise Francisco
It is going to be a fun week to be an Oak Ridge Colt! We hope everyone enjoys the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Monday, Jan. 21. The school will be closed on Monday, but we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday morning, Jan. 22. Has your child shared with you that each day as they enter the building they are greeted by members of our Safety Patrol, staff members and fun, upbeat music to start their day? We aim to kick off each school day with a happy and welcoming environment for each student!

This week is the final week of the 2nd quarter. We look forward to all parents meeting briefly with their child’s teacher on Monday, Jan. 28th for Report Card Conferences.  While these conferences are quick you are always encouraged to sign up for an additional time to meet with your teacher if more in depth conversation is needed to discuss your child’s progress. Later in the spring on Wed. March 20th we will once again hold the annual Student Led Conference Night where your child will lead you through a student led conference that highlights their progress.

Mr. Terzigni, ORE STEM Teacher, was recently promoted to an assistant principal position at Hunter Elementary School in GCS. While we are very sad to see him leave Oak Ridge, we are happy for him as he moves into school leadership and we are very appreciative for all he did to initiate our amazing STEM Lab. We are currently searching for the “just right” certified STEM teacher to fill this vacancy and continue the excellent program that Mr. T created. While the vacancy is still active your child’s classroom teacher is continuing to take the students to the Lab during this part of their specials rotation. Our goal is to have the STEM Lab vacancy filled in the next couple of months.

Have a great week,
Mrs. Francisco

The Kids Heart Challenge is here!
If you haven't already, please register for our school team at heart.org/kidsheartchallenge or by searching "Kids Heart Challenge" in the app store on your mobile device.

Our students are learning all about what they can do to keep their hearts healthy, take their own health challenge and learn how they can help others by collecting donations for the American Heart Association.

Your child will earn a glow-in-the-dark wristband just for registering online. When they get donations, they will receive Echo, Finn and a clasp. Also, the more donations received, the greater the opportunity for ORES to receive a portion back for P.E. games and supplies.

We are a healthy and service-minded community. Thanks for your support!

Help keep our Oak Ridge Elementary PTO strong!
Looking forward to next school year, we are need some very important volunteers.  We encourage parents of our younger students to consider stepping-up as our current volunteers have children who are getting to move on from Oak Ridge Elementary. Here is another position:

  • PTO Newsletter: This position is for a volunteer that enjoys communicating with the ORE community. The newsletter is a weekly product but no online publishing experience required (that's what the software is for). All of the work is done via computer so no set daytime requirements either!

We are still in search for volunteers for Sponsorship and Chess Club Coordinator (attention parents of Chess Club participants!). Please contact us for more information.

These are jobs that are so integral to our PTO. We would love for volunteers to come on board now and shadow those currently doing these jobs. It will make it so much easier next year. Please email orespto@gmail.com if interested!!!
Attention Verizon subscribers! Please download the Remind app on your mobile phone.
We have been informed that the Remind app will no longer send phone text messages to Verizon Wireless subscribers starting on January 26, 2019.

Remind messages will still be available free of charge via email and on the Remind app (free download from the app store on your mobile phone).

Please make sure to have access via email and/or the app to avoid missing messages from the PTO and other Remind users.
It's Yearbook Time!

How much easier could that be?
Housekeeping Announcements from Oak Ridge Elementary
Thank you for your cooperation!
The ORE Front Office staff would like to remind you that the sign-in procedure (as a volunteer, for lunch, for a meeting, etc.) for SY 2018-19 has changed. If you are signing-in to school for the first time, you must bring in your driver's license to be scanned. This is a one time requirement. All subsequent visits will only require your date of birth.
A friendly reminder for Car Rider Line afternoon pick-up: Please make sure that your student's name is written on a piece of paper and is visible from the dashboard of your car. Cars without names displayed significantly slow down the line. You can pick up a strip of poster board from the Front Office for this purpose.
Announcements from Mrs. Royal about Colts Chorus
There will be NO chorus practice until Wednesday, January 30, 2019.

If your child is not participating in the Spring Session, please let Mrs. Royal know at royalc@gcsnc.com.

Thank you!
Sponsorship Opportunities
All of our sponsors, no matter how big or small, make a difference. Sponsoring our weekly newsletter, gymnasium banners, website and school planners helps us provide the school staff, our students and our families resources that the school's budget does not provide. If you are interested in a sponsorship, please contact us.
