Reflecting on 2021 - a banner year for EVLT & conservation
What a year it has been. As you know, local conservation has not slowed down and EVLT has been hard at work conserving our lands and wildlife habitat. Now that 2021 is coming to a close, it's time to look back and reflect on EVLT's accomplishments and give each other a pat on the back!

We've been busy! In the last 11 months, EVLT has:

  • Helped protect Sweetwater Lake, which is now Colorado’s 43rd State Park
  • Created a $1.1M Sweetwater Stewardship & Equity Fund in partnership with The Conservation Fund
  • Permanently protected the 224-acre Walking Mountains Sweetwater Campus
  • Reached out to over 400 Eagle County landowners to discuss conservation options
  • Published a new strategic plan, available at www.evlt.org/mission
  • Monitored all 38 conservation easements included in EVLT’s conservation portfolio
  • Engaged over 1,000 local residents during 43 community events
  • Brought 300+ local youth onto conserved land for service learning and programming
  • Completed two large riparian restoration projects on public lands in our community
  • Helped remove over two miles of wildlife-harmful barbed wire fencing
  • Kicked off EVLT’s Find-A-Home campaign
  • Participated at various levels in critical community efforts including the Eagle County Community Wildlife Roundtable, Eagle Valley Outdoor Stewardship Coalition, Eagle River Water Plan, Upper Colorado Wild and Scenic Alternative Stakeholder Group, Climate Action Collaborative, among others

And those are just some of the highlights. As we look back, we are incredibly grateful for our donors, volunteers, partners, board and staff that made this such an impactful year. It is because of your support and commitment to conservation and this community that this can all be done.

Thank you for making this all possible!

It's the holiday shopping season! In order to help support our small, local businesses, as well as continue to support conservation efforts in our valley, consider shopping at a participating Land & Rivers Fund business for all your holiday gift needs!

The Land and Rivers Fund raises money for EVLT, as well as the Eagle River Watershed Council - both of which conserve, protect and restore land and rivers in Eagle County, as well as provide educational programs for kids and adults.

So shop local, support our small business community and help support these two conservation focused non profits at the same time!
We're hiring - join the EVLT dream team!

The lake is saved! Now what?
It’s the type of conservation partnership that, if done right, will provide a brand-new tool to our state, possibly the country. The most important guide for this process, however, is you. Listening to our community has led this coalition to the successful acquisition of Sweetwater Lake, and now we want to hear from you about how we can make it an asset to our community today and for all future generations that will enjoy it.

Many in our community have shared their thoughts, concerns, and ideas via our community Sweetwater survey, which is live at EVLT.org/sweetwater. If you want to help shape the future of Sweetwater, please let us know what you think.

There will be many opportunities to provide feedback, including in-person open house sessions that are currently being planned; this survey is a starting point. Want to read the vision for the property, more about the beginning stages of the partnership and how to stay informed? Visit EVLT.org/sweetwater for the most up-to-date information, including how you can get involved. Read more.
