Andrea Dalzell Announced as Keynote Speaker for NSNA 43rd MidYear Conference

Brooklyn, NY – August 20, 2025. The National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) is excited to announce Andrea Dalzell as the keynote speaker for the NSNA 43rd MidYear Conference, November 6-8, 2025, in Columbus, OH.

Keynote speaker Andrea Dalzell, MSN-ED, RN, is known as "The Seated Nurse." She is a passionate registered nurse, active healthcare advocate, disability rights influencer, and a strong survivor.

"It’s an incredible honor to keynote the NSNA MidYear Conference," said Ms. Dalzell. "As a disabled nurse, educator, and advocate, I know firsthand the power of resilience, representation, and redefining what leadership looks like in healthcare. I’m excited to speak to the next generation of nurses because the future of nursing depends on bold, inclusive voices willing to challenge the system and care differently."

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Dalzell was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord that causes pain, muscle weakness and paralysis at the age of five. She was using a wheelchair full-time by age 12.

Ms. Dalzell earned a BSN from the City University of New York, College of Staten Island, Staten Island, NY. After graduation, she faced challenges getting hired as a registered nurse in a hospital. After 76 interviews, Andrea Dalzell was finally given the opportunity and was hired as the first registered nurse in a wheelchair in New York state. Ms. Dalzell has been ultimately respected most for her influence and healthcare advocacy for the rights of those with disabilities throughout her journey.

“Andrea Dalzell’s story is a clear reminder that real progress is built on perseverance," Ryan Barrett, NSNA President, said. "As a trailblazing nurse and an unwavering advocate for disability rights, she doesn’t just confront outdated barriers—she breaks them. Her example calls all of us to build a more inclusive future. We’re honored to welcome her as our MidYear Keynote.”
