Trying to weigh the pros and cons of traveling in highly uncertain times? Many of us are eager to get back in the water, yet want to go about that wisely with as little risk as possible under these circumstances.
We believe it's our job to work with suppliers to minimize unnecessary risk while you're traveling and diving with us. Does that mean extra cleaning, and safety precautions like eliminating self-serve buffet meals? Of course, but we've asked our selected dive operators to go beyond those basic expectations.
We initially chose the
Cuan Law
liveaboard in the British Virgin Islands for its spacious design and fire-safety features, as well as fun diving and a mix of activities in an easily-accessible destination. It turns out those same positive attributes lend themselves to safer scuba travel in a pandemic as well.
The broad width of the trimaran means extra roomy cabins with either a queen or two twin beds (not bunk beds), large windows and escape hatches, and uncrowded common spaces where we can spread out comfortably for social distancing, especially at meal times. Plus we've limited capacity from 20 to no more than 15 guests in order to give everyone even more space.
Many dives can be conducted right off the stern deck, and this is one trip where non-diving partners and friends have plenty to do, including water skiing, kayaking & SUP, hiking, and beach excursions. A highlight of the week is a BBQ near the mysterious granite boulders of The Baths on Virgin Gorda, where you can explore and swim.
Fly to St. Thomas, USVI, on Saturday, November 21, and overnight there before taking the ferry the next morning to Tortola, BVI to board our yacht. Direct jet service to St. Thomas (STT) saves money and avoids small planes with limited seat spacing and luggage capacity.
Holding the guest count to just 15 divers means this trip is already almost full from word of mouth, so
