Dear Winston Students and Families,

As we close out the first semester of the school year, I want to take a moment to recognize the hard work, effort, and resilience our students have shown these past few months. It’s been wonderful to watch your growth and dedication, both in and out of the classroom.

When we return from winter break on January 5th, new Semester 2 schedules will be distributed in the morning. Please review your updated schedule carefully as there are quite a few changes including class locations and different teachers. If you have any questions about your classes, please reach out to me or Ms. Lizette.

Wishing you all a joyful and restful winter break, filled with time to recharge and enjoy family and friends. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting second semester!

Warm regards,

Kelsey Garrison

Principal

Students in our culinary arts program wrapped up the semester with a Master Chef-style showcase, creating and serving signature dishes to a panel of judges. This week’s specialty dishes included: Beef Wellington, enchiladas, pulled pork sliders, short rib ragù, Guinness stew and Irish soda bread, beef pie, crème brûlée, tortas, and 3 AM Cajun. Deciding which dishes are the winners is a tough job and we are grateful for those who stepped up to this tasty challenge. Way to go, culinary students! Keep on cooking!

🏆 Results are in! The judges selected the following dishes:

1st place - a tie between Asher’s pulled pork sliders and Hannah’s short rib ragù

2nd place - Jad’s 3 AM Cajun

3rd place - Aspen’s Guinness stew and Irish soda bread

Winston Seniors enjoyed an educational tour of the Federal Courthouse by Winston Parent Moana McMullan. Students learned about the Federal Court system from several members of the courtroom staff, including Judge, Prosecuting and Defense Attorneys, Marshalls, and Interpreter.  Thank you, Ms. McMullan, for this incredible opportunity!

This week, Winston’s College and Career Readiness class welcomed Brian Murphy from the Thames at Mitchell College program to our campus. Thames is a pre-college transition program in New London, Connecticut, designed to help students ease into life after high school with strong academic, social, and independence-building support.

This program is especially suited for students who may benefit from a smaller, highly-supported college environment, including those with learning differences, ADHD, or executive functioning challenges, as well as students who would appreciate additional time and structure before fully entering a traditional college setting. Thames students take college-level courses, build executive functioning and self-advocacy skills, and experience campus life while receiving individualized support and guidance.

Thank you, Brian, for visiting our campus and sharing information about this great program!
