The End of Summer Beach Cleanup
Grab a bag, grab a picker, and go.

WHY THE BEACH, IN OCTOBER?
CNN’s Call to Earth Day was set for October 8, with an ocean theme, “Think Blue,” and beach cleanups worldwide. Now it’s moved to December 3. We didn’t want to wait. Soon the beaches will be empty, with no one left to clean up after summer. So we’re calling it: the End of Summer Beach Cleanup.

Pick a beach, grab a bag and a picker, and go. We don’t need a special day to clean up a beach.

THINK BLUE
🌊 The Best Cleanup Is The One We Never Need.
This year’s Call to Earth Day theme is “Think Blue.” If we all brought better choices to the beach, cleanup days would be few and far between, because there would be nothing left to clean up. Share what you find with #CallToEarth.

WHAT CLEANUPS FIND
💧 Bottles And Caps, Every Single Year.
Plastic bottles and caps are some of the most common things picked up at beach cleanups. One stainless bottle in your beach bag takes you out of that statistic for good.

🐦 This Saturday, Oct 10, Is World Migratory Bird Day
Plastic cups, forks, bottles and wrappers break down into little pieces that birds swoop down and swallow, thinking it’s food. Scientists estimate most seabird species have eaten plastic. Every piece you pick up this weekend is one less on their menu.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
🌊 Skip The Stuff, With Surfrider Florida Keys
Plastic forks, straws, napkins and sauce packets you never asked for end up in the water. The Surfrider Foundation’s Florida Keys chapter is asking restaurants and shops to hand them out only on request, and asking the rest of us to pledge to skip them.
Businesses save on supplies, and less trash reaches the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Own a business, or just eat out? Both can sign up.
