Register and Prepare
for Learning Session 3
Dear PQCNC 2.0 Teammates,

It is coming soon….the clOUDi 2.0 Final Learning Session. As we all recognized when voting to continue our efforts in clOUDi in clOUDi 3.0, we still have much to offer moms and babies dealing with the scourge that is opioid use, but we have also learned much. Many of the actions we have undertaken have been successful. Some less so. There have been victories and setbacks along the way.

In bringing together clinicians of all types, patients, state leaders, and hospital leaders we are understanding more about the clinical and social challenges that OUD poses for us as providers, as well I think we are learning much about ourselves. Some of those lessons have been painful. As providers we know some patients are difficult to deal with, as patients and family members, you know some of us providers or our colleagues harbor prejudices which are impediments to spreading best practice.

So the Learning Session on October 27th will be virtual and we hope an opportunity for hospitals to highlight the successes and challenges of clOUDi to date.

We have a template for hospital presentations - available here - allowing each team to report on the described activities. Key will be not just data but some report of the activities surrounding the reporting for metrics.

Our plan as the core team is to review all slides and select a cross section of team slides which will offer the greatest opportunities for us all to learn and move the clOUDi ball forward. Everyone should know well you are amongst friends and fellow collaborators in offering your stories. Wins and persistent challenges you are confronting are all important elements of the clOUDI story. Please be willing to share all of these. We all teach, we all learn.

I will say frankly that I have learned much about myself as a physician in being part of this initiative. It has made me, I hope, a better physician.

I hope we will see teams from all 53 clOUDi member hospitals on October 27th. Use the button below to register.

I hope you all are transparent and open in reporting on your activities and metrics. And I look forward to us all together continuing to attack the menace that of OUD which is wreaking havoc, increasingly, on mothers and their babies.

Thank you for being a part of clOUDi.

Register for the PQCNC Annual Meeting
Imagine an opportunity to hear the Deputy Secretary for Medicaid, Mr. Dave Richard, and Senior NC BCBS Leadership in the same room speaking to us all on the vision for Perinatal healthcare in North Carolina.

Senator Joyce Krawiec, Co- Chair of the NC Senate Health Appropriations Committee, will be sharing her views on the opportunities and challenges facing NC in the coming years with respect to healthcare and mom-baby care in particular.

Let’s add that given the challenges faced by our smaller community hospitals and perinatal practices, the places responsible for delivering care to a majority of mothers in North Carolina, we will be privileged to here a situation report from Dr. Paul Shackleford, a distinguished Obstetrician and VP for Medical Affairs at Vidant Health.

Finally, given PQCNC’s commitment to assisting in developing local leadership and Perinatal Quality Improvement Teams(PQITs), we are honored to be addressed by an Army senior enlisted officer with multiple deployments and combat experiences who watched and observed Obstetrical and Neonatal medical teams care for his wife and son over 8 months. He has some valuable lessons on leadership, teamwork and partnering with families to share with us!

And that is just the morning!

Then lunch with...of course...Moes.

The afternoon will be dedicated to presentations of proposed initiatives to be undertaken in January 2024! There is still time to propose a project -
but those proposing initiatives will present and answer your questions. Then we will vote!!!

This is an action packed day no one involved with PQCNC Will wasn’t to miss. Mark your calendars for September 29th at the McKimmon Center.
