COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Los Altos History Museum Asks Community to Share COVID-19 Experiences
To document the impact of COVID-19 on the community, Los Altos History Museum is seeking stories, photos, diary entries, and other materials from residents of Santa Clara County. The material and online submissions will be archived for the Museum’s permanent collection, and preserved for future historians, researchers and visitors.

The deadline to submit to this collection is open-ended, as the Museum wants to allow time for individuals to process their thoughts. For updates on the project, the public is encouraged to follow the Museum on social media, or sign up for its e-newsletter via its website homepage .

To learn more, and to contribute to the collection, visit the Museum website at losaltoshistory.org/ShareCovid-19stories
Stormwater & Pollution from Surface Cleaning
In Los Altos and most parts of the San Francisco Bay Area, storm drains travel directly from streets, gutters, and other paved surfaces to local creeks, the Bay, and the Ocean. Wash water from surface cleaning activities carries pollutants—like soaps, heavy metals, oil, and grease—that can harm the numerous wildlife species that depend on healthy waterways for their survival.

Allowing polluting substances into storm drains is prohibited by local, state, and federal laws. Surface cleaning is best performed by dry methods, like sweeping. However, if you hire power-washing services, ensure that they are compliant with environmental regulations by choosing a provider that is certified by the BASMAA training program.

To report a discharge of non-stormwater into the street, a storm drain, or the creek, please call the 24-Hour Non-Emergency Police Phone Line (650) 947-2770 or use the Online Code-Enforcement Form to submit your report of illegal dumping.
Remember – Only Rain Down the Storm Drain!
Healthcare, First Responders, and Essential Worker Flyover
The California Air National Guard’s 129th Rescue Wing from Mountain View will perform a flyover throughout the Bay Area on Memorial Day Monday, May 25, with the flyover of San Jose between 12:30-12:52 p.m. The flyover displays the United Air Force’s continued support and gratitude of healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers. Attached is the flight path map for approximate times Cal Guard’s 129th Rescue Wing will be flying over the San Jose area.
Library Connector Project
The Los Altos Community Center construction project will be expanding outside the fences. On Tuesday, May 26, crews will begin working on the Library Connector Project. This project will take place in the parking lot between the History Museum and the Library. Crews will only be working Monday – Friday, and we will lose a total of 33 spots during the construction. Crews will be working on everything from the concrete to the landscaping. If you want to see the complete map of where they will be working, you can see it here.
