Welcome to Trident Academy, Dr. Christine Powell

As a result of our market research last spring, connecting with many fellow members of the Association of LD Schools, we realized the need to double down on executive functioning. As a result, we have partnered with Dr. Christine Powell--one of the foremost experts in the field--on a robust professional development schedule for the school year. During in-service, our faculty spent a full day learning from Dr. Powell, and we are excited to continue this professional development initiative throughout the year for both teachers and parents.  

IMPORTANT DATES:

September 3: TAPA Meeting at 8 a.m.

September 4: Dress-down Day -- College Colors Day

September 7: Labor Day - No School

SEAHAWK SCOOP:

RESCHEDULED: Trident Academy at the Charleston Battery!

Join us on Saturday, September 19, as we gather to celebrate the start of the school year at the Charleston Battery game. It’s the perfect time to catch up, see familiar faces, and welcome new ones! We’ve reserved the Scoreboard Lounge again this year so our students and families can hang out and enjoy the game together. The game starts at 7 p.m., but if your child wants to go on the field before the game for the high-five tunnel, please plan to arrive to the Scoreboard Lounge by 6:20 p.m. Purchase your ticket here.

Back-to-School Signed Forms Reminder

Thanks to all the parents who have returned their signed forms: field trip permission, handbook acknowledgement, and student information check-up forms. 

If you haven't done so, please check your email for the August 10 message titled Back-to-School: Information Review and Signatures Required. Hard copies were sent home with students who were missing forms. We appreciate your help with this!

TAPA Meeting - Thursday, September 3

Join us for our first TAPA (Trident Academy Parent Association) meeting of the school year on Thursday, September 3, at 8:00 a.m. in the Trident Academy lunchroom. We hope all of our parents can make it as we kick off the year and share the many ways TAPA supports our students, teachers, and school community!

Aftercare Schedule

Friday Extended Care and Homework Haven have not yet begun. We will send details next week about all afterschool programing, which will begin after Labor Day.

School Spirit Store is Open

Uniforms and Trident Academy gear can be purchased through our spirit store!

Our Dress Code describes the options and expectations for student clothing throughout the school year.

SEAHAWK SUMMER:

We are so proud of Danika M., our high school student who wrote, edited, and illustrated her very own book! Today, she visited our lower school students to share her story, answer questions, and even sign personal copies for everyone to take home.

One of our favorite things about our school community is watching our younger children look up to our older students. Seeing our high schoolers share their talents and mentor the next generation is truly special!

Last week, Ms. Allen’s class learned about the Transcontinental Railroad and some of the challenges that the workers faced. One of those challenges was getting across bodies of water. During their STEM/PBL (science, technology, engineering and math / project-based learning) class, the students worked together to research, design, build, and test their bridges. They had limited time and resources and will be testing how much weight the bridges will be able to hold.

Research phase is officially underway! Our high school science students kicked off their latest project by gathering soil samples around campus, diving headfirst into Earth Science with a unique environmental twist.

Our physical education classes have officially started their basketball unit! It's a great workout, but it’s also all about building sports skills and learning to play together.
