Your Local Source for Green Inspiration and a Deeper Connection to Nature!

As we welcome September, we're entering one of the most important seasons for your landscape. While summer has only 20 days left, autumn is the ideal time to strengthen lawns, refresh planting beds, and prepare your property for the colder months ahead. The work done now can make a significant difference in how your landscape looks and performs next spring.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be focusing on key fall services including aeration, overseeding, seasonal cleanups, and landscape enhancements. If you're considering improvements before winter arrives, now is the time to plan them.

As always, thank you for your continued trust and support. We look forward to helping your landscape finish the year strong. -Shayne

FALL IS FOR BULB PLANTING

Fall planting gives spring-blooming bulbs the best start. This essential growing period allows roots to establish before winter while providing the cold dormancy needed for strong growth and brilliant spring flowers.

Choose healthy, firm bulbs and plant them in well-drained soil in a sunny location. Early bloomers such as snowdrops and crocuses can be followed by mid-season tulips and daffodils, with late-flowering alliums carrying color into early summer. This layered approach creates a dynamic display that changes and evolves throughout the spring months. For the best display, group bulbs in clusters and combine varieties with different bloom times to enjoy color throughout the season. For a completely naturalized look, toss them in the air and plant them where they land.

After planting, water thoroughly and apply a light layer of mulch to protect bulbs over winter. With minimal effort in the fall, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful, colorful garden that welcomes spring year after year.

FALL IS FOR OVERSEEDING

Fall is the ideal time to overseed your lawn and promote thicker, healthier turf. As summer stress fades, cooler temperatures, warm soil, and increased moisture provide the perfect environment for new grass seed to germinate and establish strong roots. Overseeding helps fill in thin or damaged areas, improving your lawn's overall density, color, and appearance.

In addition to enhancing curb appeal, overseeding can help strengthen your lawn against weeds, disease, and future environmental stress. A dense, healthy stand of grass naturally crowds out unwanted weeds and creates a more resilient lawn year-round.

For the best results, overseeding is typically paired with core aeration for larger areas. Aeration relieves soil compaction and improves seed-to-soil contact, allowing water, nutrients, and oxygen to reach the root zone more effectively. With proper watering and care, new seedlings establish quickly in the fall and emerge stronger than ever the following spring.

At YardScapes, we recommend fall aeration and overseeding as one of the most effective investments you can make in the long-term health and beauty of your lawn. The effort you make this season will be rewarded with a thicker, greener, and more lush lawn next year.
