Happy New Year! It's a new year and that means the newsletter is getting a slightly "refreshed" format! This year, I'm going to try breaking the newsletter up into a few sections. First, there's pray, and it's exactly what you think; we offer a prayer for the week. Next, is form. This includes all formation and service opportunities for our young people each week. The reflect section will invite you and your child to reflect on something discussed in formation during the previous week. Finally, you'll find a coming soon section which includes events on the horizon, as well as a monthly schedule.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him and without him not one thing came into being.

-John 1:1-3a

God, you were present at the beginning.

Be with me as I being a new year and return to school once more.

Comfort me when I am unsure of my new surroundings.

Strengthen me when I stumble,

And help me remember that your light shines in all places.

All this I ask through you, my Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.

Amen.

Bring your dried-up Christmas greens, a dish to share, your favorite beverage(s), and a chair and gather for our annual Burning of the Greens! We’ll celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany by having a bonfire, saying Evening Prayer, eating yummy food, and just generally spending some time together

With the New Year comes New Year's Resolutions - a time to set our sights on changing ourselves for the better! And yet, most resolutions fail by January 9 (it's actually called National Quitter's Day). It makes you wonder: can we really change? As people of faith, perhaps there's a tension between earnestly working to transform ourselves and the understanding that true transformation is actually something that happens to; it's something we can't control and which is brought about by God. What do you think?

For Parents!

Don't forget to check out a parent forum for youth ministry HERE! You’ll need to use your email address to join. And a class code may be required, as well (pwdlelps). Once you enter the site you'll find this question:

How do you answer the statement “Youth Ministry is for________?”

Rolling Hills, MO:

As if being the new kid in 6th grade isn't hard enough, you have just been accused of stealing Honey the Bunny, the beloved class pet in Ms. Hartwell’s room. You swear you didn't touch him but Principal Stern won't listen. He is about to close the case and assign your punishment when Principal Stern needs to tend to an emergency and leaves you alone in his office. As the door shuts behind him, your eyes veer over toward his desk, where the case file for his principal’s investigation into the missing bunny lies.

CASE FACTS:

  • VICTIM: Honey The Bunny
  • LOCATION: Rolling Hills Elementary School
  • CRIME: Theft
  • FAMILY CASE NUMBER: H-123B

Can you prove you are innocent before he returns? Find the real bunny thief? Maybe even save Honey’s life and become the hero of Ms. Hartwell’s class?
