Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ -

The special Jubilee Year of Saint Francis proclaimed by Pope Leo XIV began on January 10, 2026 and runs through January 10, 2027 on the occasion of the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. His death is observed as the Transitus.

Transitus is a Latin term meaning "passage" or "crossing over". It specifically refers to the annual Franciscan celebration of St. Francis of Assisi's passing from earthly life to life with God, held on the evening of October 3rd, the eve of his feast day. It is a commemoration of his death, marking his transition rather than focusing solely on sorrow.

The Jubilee Year promotes spiritual renewal through his example of peace, poverty, and care for creation. And, in a special way, that the peace of Christ might echo in our world.

Join us for the premiere of a special choral program, titled Francis, composed by distinguished UCLA professor Dr. Richard Danielpour.

With a diverse sonic landscape, Francis orchestrates three main elements that shape our humanity—curiosity, generosity, and compassion. Speaking from the soul, Dr. Danielpour shares that the story of Saint Francis of Assisi allows us to look at the Power of Love rather than the Love of Power, as he represents how people must love and accept their neighbors, regardless of class, gender, race, or their beliefs.

Especially in a time when our nation is endlessly divided, Dr. Danielpour invites us through the rich harmonies and emotional prose in Francis to consider that human beings are more alike than unalike, challenging our notions of humanity.

Peace and blessings,

Father Gil

Thank you! Your generosity in the Annual Paulist Appeal sustains the Paulist mission and our community especially in training new Paulists and caring for our senior priests. There is still time to make a gift. If you haven't donated, please consider a gift to help our community. A gift of any amount is deeply appreciated by the men in our house and community.

You may donate at online at paulist.org/apa.

Jesus calls us to share the Good News, to forgive, to serve. He breathes on the disciples the Holy Spirit, equipping them with the power and courage to fulfill their mission. The Church is thus born from belief coupled with action.

This same Spirit is given to us. We, too, are called to be Christ’s presence in our homes, workplaces, and communities. And we walk together as a Church. One way we answer this call is by supporting Together in Mission, which sustains the Church’s mission through ministries of education, service, and outreach. Your gift helps send the Church into the world, just as Christ sent his first disciples.

Please make your gift today at Together in Mission Annual Appeal. Thank you.

For peace in every nation: for an end to the war in Iran, Ukraine. For all those wounded and killed and for the safety of service members in harm's way. For peace, may the light of the Holy Spirit transform hearts so that all may seek the way of peace together, let us pray to the Lord:
