How Indian Americans Came to Dominate Hotel Ownership | | While writing about the success of the Hampton Inn, Bloomberg writer Patrick Clark got a history lesson on Indian American hotel ownership. In a recent Bloomberg newsletter, he details some of the history of the Asian American community's success in the industry and how Hampton Inn took a chance on Indian hoteliers when banks, insurance companies, and other brands wouldn't. AAHOA's founding Chairman Hasmukh (HP) Rama was interviewed for the story, as well as Amar Shah, the director of the short film The Patel Motel Story, which features AAHOA Members and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this month.
As Initial Franchise Costs Rise, Franchisees Must Get Creative | Development and buildout costs are rising due to inflation, and franchisors are increasing their cost estimates in their Item 7s, making it more expensive for franchisees to become partners. Franchise Times interviewed AAHOA Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel, who spoke about how soaring costs have caused uncertainty in the industry. Patel also shared the advice he gives franchisees and how AAHOA supports franchisee members.

U.S. RevPAR +3.3% y/y last week; Mediocre results (Luxury again excluded) on an easy y/y comp.
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +3.3% y/y for the week ending 6/21/2025, per STR/ CoStar, above the prior week's result of -1.8% y/y and above the trailing 10-week average of -0.7% y/y. Last week was an easy comp due to Juneteenth shifting to a Thursday from a Wednesday (+ to business/group travel). Given holiday timing, Monday and Tuesday RevPAR were much stronger (+3.6% and +7.4% y/y, respectively) than the rest of the workweek. Luxury ADR was especially strong, driven by Group ADR (+9.1%) and to a lesser extent Transient (+4.0%). The holiday shift was more impactful to Group than to select-service hotels. Upscale RevPAR: +3.9% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +2.0% y/y."
