Native American Heritage Month and National Adoption Month

Native American Heritage Month celebrates the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of Native Americans. It also provides the opportunity to raise general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present.

National Adoption Month seeks to increase national awareness of adoption issues, bring attention to teens in the U.S. foster care system, and emphasize the value of youth engagement.

Dear Community...

Dear North Penn Community,

It’s pretty customary when meeting up with someone to ask “how are you doing?” It’s so automatic, perhaps, that many asked don’t give a true answer and some of those asking don't listen to the response. But in today’s chaotic, fast-paced and often negative world, I think it’s safe to say that most people have ongoing concerns that adversely affect all aspects of their lives.

The North Penn School District is people focused, in that we educate students, employ adults, and prepare the next generation for society. As Superintendent, I believe it is my responsibility to do whatever we can to promote healthy mental and physical lifestyles and choices for students and staff. People work, perform, and live better lives when their social, emotional, and physical needs are being met.

During the past few weeks, NPSD has held a number of events to help our students, staff and families. On October 24th, an in-service was held for all teaching staff related to emotional health. The day included a keynote message and breakout sessions focused on how to take better care of ourselves and the students we teach.

On November 2nd, NPSD partnered with Onward Behavioral Health to host a Mental Health Resource Fair for students, families, and community members. The event held at Pennbrook Middle School featured keynote speaker, Miss Pennsylvania 2022 Alysa Bainbridge, who talked about support for those in recovery. Participants then visited a resource fair that included representatives from local mental health providers. I commend the NPSD Guidance Department for their vision and efforts for creating this opportunity.

And coming soon we'll be breaking ground on the NPSD Health Clinic. Located next to Penndale Middle School, the clinic will be for employees and their families. Not only will it save NPSD millions of dollars over the next decade, but it will give employees access to health services nearby, on extended hours and at out-of-pocket lower costs.

In addition to these district-wide efforts, each school also has plans and people in place to help our students every single day. As I visit our schools and speak with students, it is clear they are struggling and we need to do everything in our power to help them.

I know this community joins me in prioritizing the needs of our students and the staff who care for them. I will continue to update you on our progress and plans.

Sincerely,

Todd M. Bauer, Ed.D.

NPSD Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program

The North Penn School District has continued to offer the award-winning tax and rent rebate program that will see a discount of up to $731.25 for certain homeowners and renters. To qualify for this discount, applicants must have a household income of no more than $35,000 annually, and:

  • be 65 years of age or older; or
  • be a widow and widower aged 50 years of age or older; or
  • be permanently disabled and 18 years of age or older.

This property tax and rent rebate program is based on the existing Pennsylvania Property Tax and Rent Rebate program which has been in effect since 1971 and is funded by state lottery and slot machine proceeds. North Penn homeowners and renters must qualify for the state rebate program to qualify for the district rebate program.

NPSD is granting a 75% rebate based on certain eligibility requirements and income levels as follows:

  • 75% (maximum $731.25) annual rebate for North Penn homeowners and renters with a yearly household income between $0 to $8,000
  • 75% (maximum $562.50) annual rebate for North Penn homeowners and renters with a yearly household income between $8,001 to $15,000
  • 75% (maximum $337.50) annual rebate for North Penn homeowners with a yearly household income between $15,001 to $18,000
  • 75% (maximum $281.25) annual rebate for North Penn homeowners with a yearly household income between $18,001 to $35,000
  • 75% (maximum $487.50) annual rebate for North Penn renters with a yearly household income between $0 to $8,000
  • 75% (maximum $375.00) annual rebate for North Penn renters with a yearly household income between $8,001 to $15,000

Under a new law, Pennsylvanians who are approved for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2021 will receive an additional one-time bonus rebate this year. The one-time bonus rebate will be equal to 70% of your original rebate as long as the total of the rebates does not exceed the total of your property taxes or eligible rent paid.

North Penn School District is in its fifth year of issuing additional rebates based on the state rebate received. This year the District is providing a 75% match of the state rebate amount, providing the total of all the rebates does not exceed the total of your property taxes or eligible rent paid. Since the state is providing a one-time bonus rebate, the North Penn Board of School Directors recently voted to do the same.

For those who qualify for the Tax Rebate program, please visit the NPSD website to apply.

We need your help. Every school district across the state is experiencing a shortage of substitute teachers, which can impact student learning. If you have a four-year degree and enjoy working with children and teens, you can help us by joining the North Penn School District as a substitute teacher!

In addition to paying the highest rate in the county (starting at $180 per day; $170/day for guest teachers), we also provide great flexibility regarding daily assignments. You can share your availability and work as it fits your schedule. We will also provide training!
