Roadmap to Strengthen Maryland's Public Behavioral Health System for Children, Youth, and Families

The Behavioral Health Administration, in partnership with the Maryland Coalition of Families and Manatt Health, developed a Roadmap to strengthen Maryland’s public behavioral health system (PBHS) for children, youth, and families. The initiative prioritizes equity and aims to improve access to quality home- and community-based care.

The Roadmap responds to urgent concerns, including high rates of youth sadness and hopelessness, drug and alcohol overdoses, prolonged emergency department boarding, and suicide among young people. It outlines five key goals and ten strategies designed to enhance the PBHS and better meet the behavioral health needs of Maryland’s children and families.

September is Suicide Prevention Awarenesess Month

September marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the issue, inspire hope, and remind people that seeking help is a sign of strength. Suicide impacts millions each year, yet far too many carry their pain alone. No matter if you’re going through difficulties yourself, offering support to someone you care about, or working to make a difference in your community, your role is important. This month focuses on recognizing suicide warning signs, fostering honest conversations about mental health, and connecting individuals with effective care and resources. This month also includes 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Day on September 8th, a reminder that help is always just three digits away.
